Sawyer Hill’s tour bus flipped and crashed after the driver died behind the wheel near the Colorado-Wyoming border, forcing the rocker to postpone remaining North American shows.

The 27-year-old Arkansas-born rock singer was traveling with several bandmates early last Wednesday when the bus left the road around 2:20 a.m., the New York Post reported.

Driver David Jackson, 50, suffered a sudden medical emergency and died before the crash. The vehicle crossed three lines of traffic, ran off the side of the road, and rolled. Four people were hurt. The extent of those injuries has not been revealed.

An autopsy confirmed Jackson was already dead when the bus went out of control. His family later said he had been living with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, plaque buildup in the arteries, and was also epileptic. Relatives said they had not known the heart condition was present.

Family says there was no chance to say goodbye

Jackson, a Minnesota native and father of four, was driving a 2024 Freightliner M2. Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesperson Aaron Brown relayed vehicle details through local reporting after the wreck near the state line.

Daughter-in-law Danni Wong set up a fundraiser and described the sudden loss in plain, painful terms.

Wong wrote:

"There was no warning. No time to prepare. No chance to say goodbye,"

She added:

"One moment, David was out doing something he loved, and the next, his family was left trying to comprehend a loss that feels impossible to put into words,"

An online obituary said he died doing “what he loved, driving a tour bus.” The family is navigating shock and heartbreak while the cause of the medical emergency sits with the autopsy findings already released through their statements.

Days earlier, the driver described the grind of tour life

On Oct. 5, Jackson posted on Facebook about the job most fans never see. He did not frame it as glamour. He framed it as work.

Jackson wrote:

"This job isn’t for the faint of heart. We are a unique breed of people. We’ve been through a lot, and we do a lot in a single day to make a concert happen. The sacrifices we make to do this job are things most people will never truly understand,"

He continued that loving the work does not erase the strain. “But when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like a job. There is, however, a certain level of insanity that comes with this life. That insanity is part of what makes us who we are.”

Those words landed harder after the crash. Overnight miles, tight schedules, and the pressure to deliver a show all rest on people whose names never appear on the ticket.

Hill scraps the rest of the North American run

Hill had just played a sold-out show Oct. 13 at Denver’s Bluebird Theater. Salt Lake City was next on the calendar the following day. Instead, the bus wreck cut the road short.

In an Instagram statement posted Tuesday, Hill called the crash a “terrifying experience” and said it left his heart “broken.” He thanked fans for their compassion and made the business decision the moment required.

Hill said:

"After careful consideration, I’ve determined there is not a viable path forward to continue shows on the current Everybody’s Home, Nobody’s Happy tour in North America.. and that the focus and priority for my band and crew should be on processing and healing,"

He closed with a forward look: “I can’t wait to get back out there with you all.” Europe and Australia dates are still planned for next year. The remaining North American gigs are off while the band and crew recover.

No arrests or charges have been described. Official accounts center on the medical emergency, the autopsy timing, and the four people hurt when the Freightliner left the road and rolled.

Concerts run on more than amplifiers and ticket apps. They run on drivers who take the night shift so everyone else can sleep, and when one of them does not make it home, the show stops for the right reason.
