Two masked shooters pulled up outside a Tavares apartment complex early Sunday, gunned down a 26-year-old Leesburg man, and fled, leaving police hunting killers still at large.
ClickOrlando reported that Tavares Police got a call around 2:20 a.m. about a man shot near Caroline Street at the Caroline Court Apartments.
Officers found De’Angelo Donta McKnight with a gunshot wound. He later died at a hospital. He was 26 and tied to Leesburg.
Preliminary police information says McKnight was standing outside a residence when the attack happened. Two masked individuals drove up, got out, shot him, and ran.
No arrests have been announced. No motive has been made public. No vehicle description has been released beyond the simple fact that the shooters arrived in one and left the same way.
Tavares Police say the investigation is ongoing. They are asking anyone with information to call the non-emergency line at 352-343-2101 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
That is the full picture so far: an early-morning ambush, a young man dead, masked suspects gone, and a community left waiting for answers.
Masked gunmen who roll up, shoot a man on the spot, and disappear are not a “dispute.” They are predators. Law-and-order communities expect police to catch them, and neighbors who saw something to pick up the phone.
