Bravo host Andy Cohen revealed he once declined an offer to compete on "Dancing With the Stars," telling Variety he simply cannot dance on television and no one wants to watch him try.
Cohen, who hosts "Watch What Happens Live" and serves as the reunion-special host for the competition series "The Traitors," laid out his reasoning in a Variety interview published Tuesday. The long-time Bravo executive said the offer came "many, many, many years ago," and he turned it down flat.
His explanation was blunt. As Page Six reported, Cohen told Variety:
"I can't dance on TV. No one wants to see that."
Cohen added that he once considered himself "the great freeform dancer" but has since learned the hard way that the public disagrees. He said concertgoers film him dancing at Grateful Dead shows, and the clips end up on TikTok, where they draw mockery, not admiration.
"Let me dance in peace."
Beyond "Dancing With the Stars," Cohen addressed whether he would ever step onto "The Traitors" as a contestant rather than a reunion host. He said no one has asked, and he does not expect them to.
Cohen told Variety:
"First of all, I think I would be eliminated immediately. I think I would be such a target, and I've produced competition reality shows, so I don't know who would want me on their cast."
He also noted the obvious conflict of interest: hosting reunion specials for a show while also competing on it would put him in an awkward spot. Cohen said he wants to keep hosting those reunions and has no plans to blur the line.
Cohen may not want the ballroom spotlight, but plenty of his Bravo colleagues have embraced it. "Real Housewives" stars Phaedra Parks, Teresa Giudice, Kenya Moore, Lisa Vanderpump, and Erika Jayne have all competed on "Dancing With the Stars" over the years. "Vanderpump Rules" alum Ariana Madix went even further, reaching the finals roughly three years ago.
Now "Summer House" star Ciara Miller will carry the Bravo banner into Season 35, which premieres September 15 on ABC and Disney+. She joins a confirmed cast that includes Savannah Bananas player Jackson Olson, "Love Island UK" alum Maura Higgins, Jimmy Kimmel sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez, and actress Julia Stiles. "Good Morning America" will announce the full roster on September 2.
The crossover pipeline runs both directions. "The Traitors" has drawn heavily from the Bravo talent pool across four seasons, featuring Miller, Parks, Kate Chastain, Tamra Judge, Mercedes Javid, Tom Sandoval, Lisa Rinna, Candiace Bassett, and Dorinda Medley. Dolores Catania won Season 3 in 2025 alongside Dylan Efron, Gabby Windey, and Lord Ivar Mountbatten.
The competition-show circuit is not always glamorous, though. "Dancing With the Stars" has seen its share of health scares over the years. During Season 21, singer Tamar Braxton was forced to withdraw after doctors discovered blood clots in both of her lungs. She had pushed through a last-minute performance despite being hospitalized during rehearsals, and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy later said she "shouldn't have been here." Fellow contestant Kim Zolciak, herself a Bravo star, also withdrew from the same season after suffering a blood clot that caused a mini-stroke.
Cohen, for his part, seems content to watch from a safe distance, reunion desk and all. When a man tells you he gets roasted on TikTok just for dancing at a concert, believe him.
