Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been nabbed by U.S. special forces in a daring raid that left them with a few bumps and bruises.

In a dramatic operation early Saturday, the couple was arrested, faced minor injuries while trying to dodge capture, and appeared in a Manhattan federal court on Monday to answer for serious drug trafficking and weapons charges, as the New York Post reports.

The raid unfolded in the predawn hours as U.S. Delta Force operatives stormed a heavily fortified compound in Venezuela. Maduro and Flores miscalculated the height of a low door frame and bonked their heads while scrambling for cover behind a steel door.

Raid Turns Chaotic with Injuries

According to a source familiar with the operation, the injuries were entirely self-inflicted, a result of their own panicked actions during the raid. “Minor injuries related to their own actions,” the source told The Post, summing up the incident with a shrug-worthy precision.

After their less-than-graceful escape attempt, both Maduro and Flores received first aid from the very Delta Force members who apprehended them. It’s a small gesture of humanity in an otherwise intense operation.

The aftermath of the raid, however, paints a grimmer picture. Cuban officials reported that 32 of Havana’s military and police personnel stationed in Venezuela perished during the operation, while Caracas officials later confirmed 24 Venezuelan security officers were also killed.

US Forces Face Casualties Too

The Pentagon disclosed that seven U.S. service members sustained minor injuries during the mission. Five of those brave individuals have already returned to duty, while two continue to recover from their wounds.

On Monday, Maduro and Flores were hauled into Manhattan federal court to face the music on drug trafficking and weapons charges. Courtroom sketches revealed Flores sporting bandages on her head, a visible sign of her misadventure during the raid.

Speaking of pain, Flores’s attorney didn’t hold back in court, pleading for medical attention before presiding Judge Alvin Hellerstein. “She may have a fracture or severe bruising on her ribs,” the attorney claimed, requesting a physical exam and X-ray.

Court Appearance Sparks Questions

The charges themselves point to a long-standing concern about corruption at the highest levels of Venezuelan leadership. For years, conservatives have warned about the dangerous nexus of narco-trafficking and authoritarian regimes, and this arrest seems to validate those fears.

Meanwhile, a critical briefing took place Monday evening for key Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress. Top officials from both parties, along with heads of intelligence, armed services, and foreign affairs committees, sat through over two hours of detailed updates on the raid.

The briefing was led by heavy hitters, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, among others. Their presence underscores the gravity of this operation and the bipartisan need to address the fallout from Maduro’s alleged crimes.

Bipartisan Briefing Highlights Stakes

Yet, as the dust settles, the human toll of this raid cannot be ignored. The deaths of dozens of Cuban and Venezuelan officers, coupled with injuries to U.S. personnel, highlight the brutal reality of confronting entrenched power.

Still, there’s no sugarcoating the core issue: Maduro and Flores now face the full weight of the U.S. legal system for charges that could dismantle their legacy of control.

The world watches to see if justice will finally catch up with a regime long criticized for its abuses. For now, the image of a bandaged Flores and a cornered Maduro serves as a stark symbol of a crumbling power structure. Let’s hope the courts deliver a verdict as decisive as the raid itself.
