Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has turned a routine airport escort into a full-blown controversy with a profanity-laced rant that’s got everyone from TSA agents to fellow politicians shaking their heads.

The New York Post reported that on Thursday, Mace unleashed a storm of harsh words at Charleston International Airport, berating officers of the Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department during an escort to her gate, leaving staff stunned and drawing sharp criticism from peers.

The incident began when two officers were tasked with escorting Mace to her flight, waiting curbside for what they believed was a white BMW, only to miss her arrival in a vehicle of a different color.

Showing up 15 minutes behind schedule, Mace was already described as “very irate” by the time officers met her at the TSA Known Crewmember entrance.

The situation escalated quickly as they accompanied her to gate B-8, with Mace speaking at top volume, peppering her speech with profanities, and tossing out derogatory remarks that echoed through the terminal.

Whether she was dictating a fiery message into her phone or venting to someone on the line, her words were loud enough for bystanders to catch every heated syllable.

Profanity and Disbelief at Gate B-8

At the gate, Mace didn’t let up, continuing her tirade while the officers stood by, waiting for her to board her American Airlines flight.

An airline gate agent was reportedly left “in disbelief” at the display, while a TSA supervisor noted that Mace had spoken to several TSA staffers in the same cutting tone.

Security footage later confirmed she’d been dropped off in a BMW, just not the color the officers expected, a minor mix-up that hardly seemed to justify the outburst.

One officer didn’t hold back in the incident report, stating, “She repeatedly stated we were ‘f–king incompetent’ and ‘this is no way to treat a f–king US representative'"

That’s a bold way to address the folks ensuring your safety, especially when law enforcement and TSA agents are already underpaid and overworked—hardly the time for a verbal smackdown.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, a rival in the GOP gubernatorial primary, called her behavior “unacceptable,” adding, “Law enforcement and TSA agents show up every day to protect the public, and right now they’re not even getting paid. They deserve respect and appreciation. Not profanity. Not threats. Not tantrums."

Political Fallout and Public Reaction

Wilson’s critique stings with truth. Public servants don’t sign up for public scoldings, especially not from a leading candidate for governor like Mace, whose actions should reflect the dignity of her office.

Mace, for her part, took to X to downplay the incident with a sarcastic jab, posting, “BREAKING NEWS: Nancy Mace arrives at the airport – with no security. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” as if a snarky tweet could erase the echoes of her words at gate B-8.

While her campaign’s director of operations, Cameron Morabito, cited safety concerns and intensified threats as justification for heightened security, it’s hard to see how berating officers aligns with legitimate safety protocols. It's more like a misstep that’s tough to walk back.
