A new Tom Brady biography brands the long-running story of his split from a pregnant Bridget Moynahan as “fiction”, and still shows a timeline that barely works in his favor.
Page Six reports that biographer Lars Anderson takes direct aim at the old gossip script in his book “Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness,” which hit shelves as the coverage landed.
Anderson told Us Weekly that after “the math,” the timeline “barely works in Tom’s favor.” He still called the widespread narrative “fiction.”
That matters because the public version of this breakup has followed Brady for years. The book does not erase the mess. It tries to pin down the order of events.
Brady and Moynahan dated nearly three years before they parted ways in December 2006. That same month, Brady went on his first date with supermodel Gisele Bündchen.
A certified obstetrics nurse told Anderson that Moynahan’s conception date would have been in late November 2006, about two weeks before that first date with Bündchen.
By February 2007, Brady had been involved with Bündchen for two months. While the couple vacationed in Paris, Moynahan called and said she was three months pregnant.
Anderson wrote that Moynahan had been “heartbroken” by the holiday-season split. The pregnancy news, the book says, set “ablaze a global media firestorm” that “turned their private dilemma into a public spectacle.”
Bündchen “didn’t know what to do with the news,” Anderson wrote. The book adds that “the most famous supermodel in the world chose to stay with Brady as he was about to become the father to another woman’s child.”
Moynahan welcomed their son, Jack Moynahan, in August 2007. He is now 19. Brady and Moynahan later settled into amicable co-parenting, per the account.
Brady and Bündchen married in 2009 in separate ceremonies in Los Angeles and Costa Rica. Their son, Benjamin Rein Brady, arrived in December 2009 and is now 16. Their daughter, Vivian Lake Brady, arrived in December 2012 and is now 13.
The marriage lasted 13 years before the divorce in 2022, the same stretch when Brady first announced retirement, then returned for one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring for good in 2023.
Book material obtained earlier by the Daily Mail and carried in the Page Six account says Bündchen wrote Brady a letter pleading for more time, attention, and support for her career. He left the Buccaneers’ 2022 training camp for an 11-day Bahamas trip in a bid to save the marriage.
On that trip, Bündchen declared, “We’re not compatible.”
"And just like that, she was done," an insider says in the book.
Sources told Anderson that Brady lost nearly 20 pounds as the divorce drama played out. He was 49 in the current coverage; Moynahan was 55. Reps for Brady, Bündchen, and Moynahan did not immediately respond to Page Six.
Hollywood and the sports press love a villain arc. Anderson’s book tries to replace rumor math with a cleaner sequence, and still leaves Brady with a timeline that only “barely” helps. The public got the spectacle either way. The people in it got the bill.
