Musk tops 2026 midterm giving with $276 million for Republicans

Elon Musk has poured $276 million into Republican races ahead of the 2026 midterms, making him the cycle’s largest donor and dwarfing liberal billionaire spending on the other side.

The SpaceX and Tesla CEO is bankrolling GOP efforts through America PAC at a scale no other donor has matched this cycle, with money flowing to Senate and House majorities, governors, attorneys general, and get-out-the-vote work in key states.

The Post reported that Musk has spent $276 million on behalf of Republicans so far, part of $366 million he has given in total to 2026 federal campaigns. That figure already exceeds what he put into President Trump’s 2024 re-election drive.

Billions flow back to the GOP after a public break

The cash arrives after a well-known rupture. Last year Musk fell out with Trump, quit the Republican Party, and said he would launch his own America Party. The clash centered in part on Republicans’ large tax-and-spending package.

Musk later left the Department of Government Efficiency. The two men patched up the relationship. Billions began moving again to Republican causes.

Trump underscored the repair earlier this month by awarding Musk the National Medal of Science.

In May 2025, speaking at the Qatar Economic Forum, Musk had sounded ready to step back.

"In terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future."

Asked why, he added:

"I think I’ve done enough."

The midterm totals show he changed course.

$158 million anchors the Senate defense

America PAC directed the largest single slice, $158 million, to the Senate Leadership Fund, the super PAC defending Republicans’ majority in the upper chamber.

Another $76 million went to get-out-the-vote operations across seven Senate battleground states and nearly three dozen House races. The Congressional Leadership Fund, which backs House Republicans, received $20 million.

Lone Star Liberty PAC got $10 million for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s U.S. Senate bid. The Republican Governors Association received $10 million. The Republican Attorneys General Association took $2 million.

Breitbart noted the $276 million-plus total since July and that Musk founded America PAC, which has already put more than $76 million into a canvassing program aimed at Republican voters in those same Senate battlegrounds and House districts. He began funding House and Senate Republican campaigns in December and signaled plans to give still more this cycle.

Soros money trails by a wide margin

By comparison, liberal billionaire George Soros and his son Alex have contributed just over $100 million for Democratic campaigns in the midterms. Musk’s Republican total more than doubles that combined figure and makes him, in the words of one national account, by far the largest known donor of the cycle.

America PAC spokesman Andrew Romeo framed the spending in blunt terms.

"If Democrats take control of Washington and win key gubernatorial and attorney general races this November, then America risks becoming a socialist, woke and borderless country."

Romeo said the money is meant to keep Republicans competitive against the usual midterm headwinds that face the party in power.

"These robust investments have allowed the G.O.P. apparatus to get its message out so Republicans can have a fighting chance to defy history."

Trump keeps the ground game hot

While the PAC dollars build turnout machinery, Trump has kept the public energy high with campaign-style rallies. He posted on Truth Social that those events “have made a tremendous difference with the enthusiasm of the Republican Party.”

Musk’s return as the cycle’s top check-writer puts real resources behind that message in the states and districts that will decide control of Congress, governorships, and attorney general offices this November. The same donor who once said he had done enough is now the clearest financial counterweight to the left’s long-standing big-money networks.

Voters who want secure borders, accountable government, and a country that still rewards work over ideology now have the largest single private backer of the cycle putting his fortune where those stakes are highest.
