A Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office captain discovered a man shot to death along a roadside early Sunday, leaving homicide detectives with an unidentified victim and few answers.
One of the agency's captains was driving along Southwest 126 Street near Southwest 189 Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Sunday when he saw a man lying unresponsive on the shoulder, CBS News Miami reported.
The captain stopped and approached. He found the man had suffered gunshot wounds.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene and declared the man dead there. No other injuries were reported in the account released by the sheriff's office.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office said it is investigating the death. Its Homicide Bureau has assumed the case.
As of the latest report, the dead man still had not been identified. The office offered no description of a weapon, no count of wounds, and no word on witnesses or arrests. It said no further information was immediately available.
What is known is narrow and stark. A sheriff's captain on a routine drive found a man down on a public roadside. Gunshot wounds were visible. Rescue crews could not save him. Detectives now own the file, and the victim's name has not been released.
Southwest 126 Street near Southwest 189 Avenue sits in Miami-Dade County, the same jurisdiction the sheriff's office patrols every day. A body left on the shoulder at that hour turns an ordinary stretch of road into an active death investigation before most residents have finished breakfast.
Officials have not said whether the shooting happened at that spot or whether the man was dumped there after the attack. They have not named a suspect. They have not said a gun was recovered. Those gaps remain open while the Homicide Bureau works the scene and the victim's identity.
A man was found shot and left dead on a Miami-Dade roadside. The public is entitled to a name, a clear accounting, and a serious pursuit of whoever pulled the trigger.
