A Vietnamese motorcyclist was struck by lightning and crashed onto a wet road before midday, doctors say she survived burns and head wounds.
Dashcam video from a car traveling behind her captured a bright flash as the bolt hit, followed by a deafening bang, The Sun reported.
The rider, identified only as Ho Thi H., lost control on the wet, slippery surface, veered toward the side of the road, and fell hard onto the tarmac in Nghe An province in central Vietnam.
The strike happened Thursday around just before midday at a junction during thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Stunned locals rushed to help and got her to a hospital for emergency care.
Hospital staff said she suffered a head injury in the crash along with burns on her arms and neck. Surgeons operated on the head wounds. She was moved to intensive care and later to a burns unit.
A doctor described her condition this way:
"The patient has a head injury that has been surgically treated. Additionally, the patient has several burns on the arms and neck area, which are currently being treated and monitored. The victim is conscious and vital signs are normal. Her life is not in danger."
Weather officials in the area had warned of lightning, hail, and strong winds as the storms moved through. The road was already wet when the bolt hit.
