Joy Behar set to return to The View next week after shoulder injury

Joy Behar is still healing from a dislocated shoulder that kept her off The View, but the longtime co-host says she plans to be back next week.

Deadline reported that Behar remains on the mend after catching her heel and tripping last week at The View’s ABC studio building in New York.

The fall dislocated her shoulder and pulled her out of episodes earlier this month. That stretch included the birthday episode she missed as she turned 84.

Whoopi Goldberg read a fresh update from Behar at the top of a later episode, with Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Ana Navarro, and Sunny Hostin also at the table.

Behar’s note thanked viewers and leaned on her usual dry humor about age and recovery.

"Thanks to everyone who inquired about my recovery. If I was still 21 I’d have bounced back the next day, but since I’m an old bat recuperating takes a bit longer."

She added a clear timeline for her seat at the desk.

"I plan to be back next week, to fill everyone in on all the gory details."

The absence was first flagged on air when Hostin told viewers their colleague had been hurt, a moment that fits the show’s pattern of Joy Behar sitting out after the shoulder dislocation.

Hostin put it plainly during that earlier live episode.

"Our dear friend Joy dislocated her shoulder."

Goldberg was out that same Thursday filming the Netflix movie Women Like Us, so Hostin filled in as moderator. Coverage of Hostin’s on-air role often circles back to her off-camera record, including when Sunny Hostin reveals past jury decisions that still draw scrutiny.

On the October 7 birthday episode Behar missed, Goldberg relayed another message from her co-host. Behar noted that despite sharing a birthday with Vladimir Putin, she did not have “the Russian plague.” Goldberg urged her to heal fast so the panel could celebrate her return on set.

The same stretch forced a swap at a live taping of the Behind the Table podcast at New York’s City Winery. Goldberg stepped in there while Behar recovered.

Another injury sidelines a familiar voice

This is not Behar’s first stretch away from the ABC talk show for a household-style mishap. In 2025 she missed several episodes after breaking a toe by dropping an iPad on her foot, and she later quipped that she did not recommend dropping anything on your toes.

The View’s rotating cast kept the microphones hot without her. Hostin’s profile beyond the desk includes sharp political talk, such as when Sunny Hostin calls for extreme remedies against Republican presidents, and separate fights over her book projects after she blames racism for Hollywood pass-overs.

Behar had been expected back at the table this week. That did not happen. The latest on-air word is straightforward: she is still recuperating and aims to return next week to recount what she calls the gory details of the studio trip.

Daytime television rarely lacks for lectures on everyone else’s choices. A simple fall at the office is a reminder that even the loudest panel can lose a voice to ordinary gravity.
