Independent journalist Nick Shirley is back on the beat, stirring the pot with fresh allegations of fraud at state-funded childcare centers in Minnesota.

Shirley, alongside his researcher known only as "David," revisited the Quality Learning Center in Minneapolis on Tuesday, doubling down on prior claims of misuse of taxpayer money and a previous criminal complaint filed against the governor, after a viral video put the issue under a national spotlight, as Fox News reports.

This isn’t just a casual drop-by; the duo sported matching sweatshirts with cheeky slogans like "1-800 FRAUD" and a jab at the center’s misspelled signage, reading "Quality ‘Learing’ Center." Talk about wearing your accusations on your sleeve—literally.

Tracing the Viral Fraud Allegations

The saga began when Shirley released a widely shared video highlighting suspected fraud at multiple state daycare facilities, including the seemingly inactive Quality Learning Center, despite its receipt of state childcare funds.

That video didn’t just make waves. It tsunamied across social media, earning nods from heavyweights like Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY), Donald Trump Jr., and Elon Musk, while drawing sharp rebukes from Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and others.

Critics, including state officials and a daycare manager, fired back on Monday, insisting the fraud claims are baseless and that Shirley’s footage misrepresented the center by filming outside operating hours.

Escalating Actions Outside the Center

Fast forward to Tuesday, and Shirley and David weren’t just there for a photo op outside the Minneapolis facility. They meant business with a capital B.

In a bold post on X, captioned with a defiant "WE OUT HERE LEARIN AND STOPPING FRAUD," Shirley showcased their stance, quite literally standing their ground in those pointed sweatshirts.

But the real bombshell? David revealed to reporters that he had already filed a criminal complaint against Gov. Walz over the alleged widespread fraud, a move he confirmed was initiated three to four weeks before this latest visit.

Details of the Criminal Complaint

David didn’t mince words, stating, "I filed a formal criminal complaint against Tim Walz for violating Minnesota Statute 3.971, Subdivision 9."

He went further, alleging, "So there's an investigation ongoing, and I think Tim's going to have a bad day, and he deserves it, because he allowed this fraud." While the accusation packs a punch, one wonders if the evidence will hold up under legal scrutiny or if it’s more sizzle than steak.

Walz, already under fire for a broader scandal involving at least $1 billion reportedly lost to social services fraud, mostly linked to Minneapolis’ Somali community, now faces this additional legal challenge. His office has yet to respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.

Questions Linger on Both Sides

The optics here are tough for Walz, as public frustration grows over the perceived mismanagement of state funds, especially when hardworking taxpayers foot the bill for programs that may not deliver results.

Yet, the daycare manager’s defense—that Shirley’s original video painted a false picture by filming at off-hours. It raises fair questions about whether this is genuine fraud or just a poorly timed gotcha moment.

Whichever side you lean toward, this story is far from over, and with Shirley and David pushing the narrative, Minnesota’s childcare funding mess is one controversy that won’t be swept under the rug anytime soon.
