A vicious shouting match on CNN Wednesday forced an abrupt commercial break as The View’s Ana Navarro and black conservative Shermichael Singleton clashed over illegal immigration.
As reported by Daily Mail, the dispute erupted while discussing Kilmar Campos Garcia, a Salvadoran migrant deported by the Trump administration despite court orders demanding his return to the U.S.
Singleton argued that illegal immigrants must leave, emphasizing that Americans are fed up with strained resources and that prioritizing citizens comes first.
Navarro countered that many Americans, except descendants of enslaved Africans, arrived illegally, sparking a heated misunderstanding with Singleton.
Singleton, mishearing her, furiously insisted undocumented migrants crossing borders by choice differ vastly from black Americans forcibly brought as slaves.
CNN host Phillips intervened, noting Singleton likely misheard Navarro, but the argument only grew louder.
Navarro defended her lifelong advocacy for black communities, stunned that Singleton thought she’d equate migrants with descendants of slaves.
Singleton sarcastically shot back, stressing his black identity while pointing out Navarro, a Latina, couldn’t claim the same experience.
Navarro retorted that Latinos face racial profiling, further fueling the chaotic exchange.
Singleton, increasingly agitated, challenged Navarro to compare their peoples’ histories, pushing the segment into disarray.
Phillips, unable to restore order, cut to a commercial break to stop the shouting match.
Campos Garcia, a 29-year-old Salvadoran, was deported to El Salvador despite a 2019 court order protecting him from removal.
Campos Garcia, married to an American with three kids, lived in Maryland for 14 years after fleeing El Salvador at 16 to escape gang persecution.
Maryland police labeled him an MS-13 gang member in 2019 based on tattoos, a hoodie, and an informant’s claim, though he was never charged.
The Trump administration, citing alleged gang ties, sent him to an El Salvador prison in March, defying a judge’s order and sparking outrage.
