Rob Lowe’s eldest son Matthew married Emily Markus in Santa Barbara with Gwyneth Paltrow officiating, a star-filled family day that arrived less than two weeks after a painful loss.
Matthew Lowe, 33, wed Emily Markus on Oct. 10, 2026, in Santa Barbara, California. Longtime family friend Gwyneth Paltrow officiated the ceremony, and a representative for Rob Lowe confirmed the marriage the next day.
USA TODAY reported the confirmation on Oct. 11, after Page Six first carried the news and obtained photos from the day.
The groom is the older son of actor Rob Lowe and jewelry designer Sheryl Berkoff, who married in July 1991. Matthew graduated from Duke University, earned a law degree, and works in asset management. His younger brother, John Owen Lowe, sat in the front row with the groom’s family.
Photos obtained by Page Six showed a guest list heavy with familiar Hollywood names. Katy Perry attended. So did Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo, Zoe Saldaña and Marco Perego-Saldaña, and Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger.
Rob Lowe’s brother, Emmy-winning director Chad Lowe, was also photographed among the guests with his wife, Kim Painter, and daughters Mabel and Nixie.
On Oct. 11, Matthew Lowe re-posted attendees’ photos and videos to his Instagram Stories. One clip showed him taking a dip in the ocean hours before the wedding.
Markus and Matthew Lowe announced their engagement on July 3, 2025. Social media posts from that day showed him on bended knee, presenting a ring in the lush backyard of a home.
Away from the red carpet lane his father and brother have worked, Matthew has built a business track with Rob Lowe. In a 2024 interview with People, the actor described how closely they work.
"Matthew and I have so many businesses that we're doing together. He is currently working for Eldridge, and they own the Dodgers, and they own Chelsea [Football Club],"
Rob Lowe said. He added that the phone keeps them linked through the day:
"I was on the phone with him four times today with different things,"
And he framed the split between his sons’ paths this way:
"So I get the creative show business with Johnny, and the business branding, investment opportunity with Matthew. I spend almost an equal amount of time with them professionally [and] personally. We've always been close."
John Owen has collaborated with their father on projects including the Netflix series “Unstable.” Matthew’s lane, by his father’s account, sits in branding, investment, and the Eldridge work.
The wedding came less than two weeks after a devastating blow inside the wider Lowe family. Fiona Lowe, the 13-year-old cousin of Matthew and second daughter of Chad Lowe, died by suicide on Sept. 29. Chad, Kim, Mabel, and Nixie were still present among the wedding guests in Santa Barbara.
No public motive for the wedding timing appears in the reporting. What the record shows is simpler: a son got married, a family friend officiated, parents and a brother stood close by, and the celebration went forward after a hard loss.
Hollywood will churn out the guest list and the photos. A father and mother watching their son marry, with their other son in the front row, is the part that still anchors a life.
