Gordon Ramsay says flower bill, not giving Holly away, brought the tears at her wedding

Gordon Ramsay admits he cried walking his daughter down the aisle less from pure emotion than from sticker shock over the flower bill, until those blooms went to a hospital.

The celebrity chef told Fox News Digital he looked like “a sack of f***ing custard” on the long walk into the church for daughter Holly’s wedding, and that the flower tab was a big part of why.

Holly Ramsay, 26, married Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, 31, on Dec. 27, 2025, at The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Bath, England. The couple had announced their engagement in 2024.

Ramsay, 59, did not hide the father-daughter weight of the day. He also did not hide the bill.

Sixty meters, expensive blooms, and a hospital donation

He described the aisle stretch as 60 meters and said the display stopped him cold.

In the interview he put it this way:

"And I was looking at all these flowers overlooking the pews and thinking, ‘S***, this is expensive!' Everyone thought I was crying because I was giving her away. I was more crying with the f***ing cost of the flower bill, and where are they going tomorrow? We're paying all this money for 90 minutes, these flowers."

The fix was practical. “We got the flowers donated to the local hospital and that stopped me crying,” he said. Then came the handoff, and a different kind of relief. “And then I handed her over, and I celebrated like no tomorrow, because that daughter was expensive.”

Holly wore three dresses that day, including her mother Tana’s 1996 wedding gown. She later told British Vogue the last time her father had seen that dress was when he danced with Tana at their own wedding, and that he still wells up when the subject comes up.

Borrowed time before “second best”

Ramsay framed the aisle walk as the moment a dad stops being the main man in his daughter’s life.

He said he told his girls early, around 7 or 8, that the sooner they brought him a problem, the more he could do. They ignored him for a stretch, he said, then came back as preteens. That made him the “cool f***ing dad.” The wedding reversed the ranking.

“But when you walk them down the aisle, and you're minutes away from not being the number one guy in their life, and you're handing them over, man, that hits. That absolutely hits,” he said. “So you have to understand that that relationship with your daughter is borrowed time before there's another man in their lives... that you become second best.”

He and Tana, 52, have six children, three boys and three girls. Megan, 28, is engaged; Ramsay has said another wedding is coming. Matilda, or Tilly, 24, told People he rehearsed the father-of-the-bride speech for about an hour on Christmas Eve and that “no tweaks were needed.” “It was perfect,” she said. “It made everybody cry.”

Ramsay called the speech a “tough gig” that needed to be warm and emotional. He also admitted the whole scene left him a “hot mess,” even as he joked about the costs and the calendar still ahead.

Time, kitchens, and the next service

The same interview turned to what building a restaurant empire cost at home. He named the price in one word: time.

He said he missed school runs, dinners, plays, and nativities while other people ate in his dining rooms or someone else’s. He and Tana chose shorter stretches of higher-quality family time over constant presence. His kids, he said, learned to value what they got.

“So yeah, I'd say time, the biggest, the most expensive ingredient in the world, time,” he said. “And you have to sacrifice that time.”

That theme feeds his Apple TV series “Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars,” which debuted in October 2025. Season 2 premiered Sept. 25 and follows restaurants under Michelin pressure. Ramsay’s own London flagship, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, has held three stars continuously since 2001; his group more recently reached nine stars worldwide, with Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High earning a first star in the 2026 Michelin Guide.

He wants viewers to grasp the off-camera grind, cooks working 12 or 14 hours for a plate finished in minutes, and “the value in perfection.”

A famous dad can joke about flowers and still mean the handoff. The bill was real. So was the moment he stopped being first.
