Flashback: Minnesota daycare fraud exposed in shocking 2015 surveillance footage

Newly resurfaced 2015 surveillance footage has blown the lid off a growing fraud scandal involving Minnesota daycare centers, where taxpayers have allegedly been fleeced for staggering sums, as Breitbart reports.

This scandal, reignited by a viral video from citizen journalist Nick Shirley, centers on daycare facilities and parents allegedly colluding to bill the government for childcare services that were never provided.

For hardworking Minnesota taxpayers, especially retirees on fixed incomes, this is a gut punch—forking over hard-earned dollars for phantom services means real financial burdens when every penny counts.

Daycare Deception Caught on Camera

Back in March 2015, Hennepin County prosecutors uncovered a disturbing scam through surveillance footage that showed parents dropping off kids at Minneapolis daycare centers only to pick them up mere minutes later.

Four facilities were at the heart of this racket, accused of billing taxpayers for children who weren’t even there— in one jaw-dropping instance, claims were made for 800 kids who never set foot in the building.

Authorities got wise and planted cameras on telephone poles to count heads, confirming the scam with cold, hard evidence of near-empty daycares raking in public funds.

Parents and Payoffs in the Scheme

Even more galling, the 2015 footage allegedly captures parents receiving envelopes believed to be kickback payments for playing along with the fraud.

As a Fox 9 journalist put it in a 2018 report, “For the scheme to work, the daycare centers need to sign up low-income families that qualify for child care assistance funding.”

Well, isn’t that a tidy little arrangement—using vulnerable families as pawns while taxpayer money gets siphoned off for personal gain?

Viral Video Sparks Renewed Outrage

Fast forward to last Friday, when Nick Shirley dropped a 42-minute bombshell video on X, racking up over 127 million views and dragging this old scandal back into the spotlight.

Shirley’s exposé alleged ongoing fraud at multiple Minnesota daycare centers, piling onto existing scrutiny of Gov. Tim Walz, who’s already under fire for a separate scandal involving hundreds of millions stolen from a federal nutrition program.

House Majority Whip Rep. Tom Emmer didn’t mince words, penning a letter to Walz demanding accountability and swift action to stop the bleeding of public funds.

FBI Steps Up to Fight Fraud

Thankfully, the FBI isn’t sitting on its hands—Director Kash Patel announced a surge of resources to Minnesota, targeting large-scale fraud exploiting federal programs, including the already-dismantled $250 million Feeding Our Future scheme tied to food aid for vulnerable kids during COVID.

Patel didn’t hold back on X, declaring, “Fraud that steals from taxpayers and robs vulnerable children will remain a top FBI priority in Minnesota and nationwide.”

That’s the kind of no-nonsense stance conservatives can get behind, ensuring no one escapes the long arm of the law, no matter how deep this rabbit hole goes.
