Five members of the original "Full House" cast filmed a dance video together at a Florida fan convention, but the reunion drew as much attention for who was missing as for who showed up.
John Stamos posted the clip to Instagram on August 9, showing himself alongside Dave Coulier, Lori Loughlin, Jodie Sweetin, and Andrea Barber at The Nostalgia Con in Orlando. The five turned their heads one by one before breaking into a group dance set to C+C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)." Stamos captioned it simply: "Threw our necks out for this."
Absent from the video, and from the convention's guest lineup, was Candace Cameron Bure, who played D.J. Tanner on the original ABC sitcom and its 2016 Netflix spinoff, "Fuller House." USA TODAY reported that Bure was not a featured guest at the event, though no explanation for her absence has surfaced publicly. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who shared the role of Michelle Tanner for eight seasons, were also not present, consistent with a yearslong pattern of stepping back from the franchise.
The video carried particular significance for Coulier, who went into remission from his latest bout of cancer before the convention. The timeline of his diagnosis and treatment was not detailed, but his appearance alongside longtime castmates marked a visible milestone.
Coulier has long described the "Full House" cast as a genuine family. At a 2022 reunion event organized just two months after the death of co-star Bob Saget, Coulier told the New York Post the bond was real:
"We're so close, that whenever and wherever we get together it's like a family reunion."
Saget died in January 2022 at age 65 after suffering accidental blunt head trauma in an Orlando hotel room. Fans in the comments on Stamos's latest Instagram post mourned his absence from the new video.
Loughlin's appearance in the clip was itself notable. She had been absent from a widely circulated cast photo taken at Saget's funeral, a gap attributed to fallout from her involvement in the college admissions scandal, a federal bribery case in which wealthy parents paid to fraudulently secure their children's admission to elite universities. Her inclusion in the Orlando video suggests the cast has moved past whatever distance that episode created.
Sweetin, meanwhile, addressed the Olsen twins' continued absence from the "Full House" orbit during a June 30 appearance on the "Taboo's Comics & Kicks" podcast. She was blunt about the split, noting that the twins had left the show at a young age and had built a separate life since:
"They walked away from all of us at eight years old. Like I had experiences from five to 13, like my formative years. Eight and earlier, you don't remember all that much."
Sweetin added that the Olsen twins, who now run the luxury fashion brand The Row, simply do not want the spotlight that comes with the franchise.
"They don't want attention. Their empire blew up, and they don't want attention. I get it. Like, they had so much and were so invaded... for public consumption. I totally understand why they don't want to do that."
That explanation covers the Olsens. It does not cover Bure, who has remained active in entertainment and public life and whose absence went unexplained in any public statement from either her or the rest of the cast.
Fan conventions built around 1980s and 1990s television nostalgia have become a reliable circuit for legacy casts. The Nostalgia Con in Orlando follows events like the '90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, which hosted a "Full House" reunion in March 2022 with Coulier, Bure, Barber, and Scott Weinger, just weeks after Saget's death. At that event, the cast released a joint statement calling Saget "a brother to us guys, a father to us girls and a friend to all of us."
But each reunion also highlights the cracks. Bure attended the 2022 event and was pictured with the Olsen twins at Saget's funeral. She was nowhere to be seen in Orlando. The Olsens have been absent from virtually every public cast gathering for years. And Loughlin's return to the group, while apparently welcomed, came only after a long period on the outside.
The Instagram video itself was lighthearted, five middle-aged actors channeling their old characters' energy to a 1990s dance track. Fans responded with warmth, grief for Saget, and pointed questions about Bure's absence.
Nobody from the cast or from The Nostalgia Con has publicly addressed why Bure was not part of the reunion.
In Hollywood, what goes unsaid often says the most. The "Full House" family keeps showing up, just not all at the same time, and never with a full explanation for who is missing or why.
