House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) is calling out Democrats for what he sees as a blatant game of pick-and-choose with Jeffrey Epstein’s dark legacy.
The crux of this Capitol Hill clash is Comer’s accusation that committee Democrats are strategically leaking photos and videos from Epstein’s private compound on Little Saint James in the U.S. Virgin Islands, while both sides lob charges of manipulation and obstruction in a probe meant to uncover the full scope of Epstein’s horrific actions, as Fox News reports.
Comer didn’t mince words, alleging that many of the so-called “never-before-seen” images Democrats dropped were already out there, courtesy of James O’Keefe and his O’Keefe Media Group.
Adding fuel to the fire, O’Keefe himself took to X, pointing out that Democrats redacted parts of the images, while his versions were unedited -- raising questions about what’s being hidden.
Democrats, undeterred, pushed out over 150 additional photos and videos mere minutes after media outlets sought Comer’s reaction, almost as if to double down on their narrative.
These new releases paint a chilling picture -- think framed photos of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell with the pope, odd art pieces like a lamp shaped as a woman’s torso, and even a nightstand with a sleeping mask and tissues.
Other images include a computer screen showing security camera feeds -- only three of which seem active -- and a chalkboard scrawled with unsettling words like “power” and “deception.”
It’s the kind of stuff that makes your skin crawl, but Comer insists the Democrats’ rollout is more about optics than truth, a distraction from a serious bipartisan effort.
“Throughout the course of our investigation, Democrats have cherry-picked documents and doctored some of them, and now they are chasing headlines by slapping ‘never-before-seen’ on images and video that were reported by O’Keefe Media Group months ago,” Comer stated, clearly fed up with what he sees as political theater.
“These new images are a disturbing look into the world of Jeffrey Epstein and his island,” countered Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) framing the release as a public service for transparency.
“We are releasing these photos and videos to ensure public transparency in our investigation and to help piece together the full picture of Epstein’s horrific crimes,” Garcia added, though his call for former President Donald Trump to release files feels like a political jab rather than a policy push.
Let’s be real -- while transparency is noble, the timing and selective nature of these drops smell more like a calculated move to steer the narrative, especially with accusations flying that Comer is shielding Trump, who was once acquainted with Epstein but has never been tied to any misconduct in this saga.
Meanwhile, the Oversight Committee isn’t sitting idle; they’ve amassed around 5,000 documents from subpoenas to J.P. Morgan and Deutsche Bank, plus requests to the U.S. Virgin Islands, with over 65,000 pages already made public.
Comer himself has overseen the release of thousands of pages related to Epstein’s activities, yet Republicans argue Democrats are undermining a unified investigation to spin a false story about Trump -- a claim that seems to hold water given the partisan back-and-forth.
At the end of the day, this Epstein probe should be about justice for victims, not a political chess game, but with both sides accusing each other of foul play -- Democrats alleging cover-ups, Republicans pointing to sabotage -- it’s hard to see the forest for the trees. It’s a sad state of affairs when uncovering the truth about a monster like Epstein gets bogged down in Washington’s usual mudslinging, but here we are, folks, hoping the focus returns to the real horror at hand.
