First lady Melania Trump is in the legal crosshairs again, this time accused of orchestrating a calculated attack on a well-known, left-leaning author’s reputation, as the Daily Mail reports.
Author Michael Wolff has filed a lawsuit against Mrs. Trump, alleging she spearheaded a deliberate effort to tarnish his name and block the release of his book, The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump (Redux), through false claims and legal threats.
Wolff, no stranger to controversy with four books on Donald Trump’s political journey under his belt, claims that Melania accused him of making up interviews and bullying sources -- charges he insists are baseless.
According to the lawsuit, Melania didn’t stop at words; she allegedly directed a PR firm to warn media outlets against covering Wolff’s book, threatening lawsuits if they dared to publish stories about it.
The plot thickens with Wolff’s assertion that Melania’s team engaged in what he calls a “calculated campaign to destroy his reputation and livelihood,” a charge that paints a picture of high-stakes vendetta rather than mere disagreement.
Adding fuel to the fire, Wolff’s book reportedly includes explosive claims tying Melania to the late Jeffrey Epstein, allegations that have drawn sharp rebukes and legal warnings from her camp.
These Epstein-related claims surfaced publicly when Hunter Biden repeated them during a Daily Beast podcast in late July. Then followed by another mention on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan on Aug. 5.
The Daily Beast initially ran with Wolff’s Epstein story but later issued an apology, suggesting even progressive outlets found the claims too hot to handle without solid proof.
Melania’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, didn’t mince words, sending a letter to Wolff on Oct. 15 demanding he cease making what they call defamatory statements about her supposed Epstein connections, or face a staggering $1 billion lawsuit.
Brito also targeted Hunter Biden with a similar threat, demanding a retraction of the Epstein claims and warning of a $1 billion suit if he didn’t comply -- a legal sledgehammer if there ever was one.
Among the disputed statements Wolff allegedly made, one particularly inflammatory claim suggested Melania might be the “missing link” in tying President Trump to Epstein, even alleging intimate encounters on Epstein’s infamous plane.
Melania’s spokesperson fired back at the Daily Mail, declaring, “First Lady Melania Trump is proud to continue standing up to those who spread malicious and defamatory falsehoods as they desperately try to get undeserved attention and money from their unlawful conduct.” Well, that’s a noble stance, but in a world obsessed with sensationalism, separating fact from fiction remains a Herculean task.
Donald Trump, never one to shy from a fight, has his own history with Wolff, having authored three prior books about him that Trump claims are full of falsehoods, and now dismissing this latest work as a “total FAKE JOB” on Truth Social.
Wolff, undeterred, is seeking damages and legal fees under New York’s anti-SLAPP laws, arguing the Trumps use litigation as a weapon to silence critics -- a tactic he likens to authoritarian intimidation.
While conservatives value strong defense of family and reputation, one must wonder if such hefty legal threats risk chilling free speech, a cornerstone of American values.
