There’s a storm brewing among former Biden insiders as a once-trusted spokesperson unleashes a fiery critique of the last administration’s press tactics.

Michael LaRosa, who previously served as spokesperson for Jill Biden, took to social media on Sunday to slam Andrew Bates, a former senior deputy press secretary in the Biden White House, accusing him of undermining credible journalism and losing public trust during his tenure, as the Daily Caller reports.

LaRosa’s sharp words came in response to a recent tweet by Bates, where the latter drew comparisons between statements from New York Attorney General Letitia James and FHFA Director Bill Pulte against reporting by major outlets like the New York Times (NYT) and the Associated Press (AP).

LaRosa blasts Bates

LaRosa didn’t hold back, alleging that Bates had a history of attacking esteemed publications like the NYT, AP, and the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) during his time in the Biden-Harris administration.

“Remember when this guy SMEARED and SAVAGED the journalists, editors, and the reporting of NYT, the AP, and the WSJ for four years, even a little less than a year ago?!” LaRosa tweeted, painting Bates as a relentless critic of the free press when it didn’t align with the administration’s narrative.

Let’s unpack that -- criticizing the media is one thing, but when it’s a pattern from inside the White House, it starts to look like a deliberate strategy to dodge accountability, something conservatives have long warned against in progressive circles.

Allegations of lies, bullying

LaRosa went further, claiming that Bates and other Democratic press operatives had eroded their own credibility with both the public and the media through questionable tactics.

“These are the type of Dem press flacks from the Biden era who lost all credibility with the public and the media,” LaRosa declared, suggesting a deep-rooted problem in how the administration handled dissent or scrutiny.

From a conservative lens, this rings true -- when transparency takes a backseat to spin, it’s no surprise trust in institutions crumbles, leaving everyday Americans skeptical of what they’re being fed by those in power.

Bates’ ongoing defense of Biden's fitness

During his time in the White House, Bates was a staunch defender of former President Joe Biden’s mental and physical fitness, especially as questions mounted toward the end of Biden’s term.

Just two days before Biden exited the presidential race, Bates publicly pushed back against reports suggesting the Biden family and advisors were even discussing such a move, dismissing the stories as baseless.

In the weeks prior, Bates also took aim at a NYT article claiming Biden had confided to an ally about weighing whether to remain in the race -- a report Bates vehemently denied, casting doubt on the outlet’s reliability.

White House oversight of media under scrutiny

Adding fuel to the fire, LaRosa’s accusations align with reports from the Wall Street Journal, which conducted over 45 interviews with lawmakers and officials from both parties on Biden’s health and capacity.

The WSJ noted that the White House, including Bates, closely monitored their reporting, with some Democrats even tipping off administration officials about their interviews -- a move that raises eyebrows about press freedom under such intense scrutiny.

For those of us who value an unfiltered press, this kind of oversight smacks of control, not cooperation, and it’s a reminder of why conservatives often push for less government overreach in media spaces, even if the intent seems protective on the surface.
