Trump suggests Sen. Adam Schiff could be next prominent figure to face prosecution

President Donald Trump has once again thrown a political grenade, this time aiming at California Sen. Adam Schiff with sharp accusations of corruption and dishonesty over his role in past impeachment efforts, as the New York Post reports.

In a fiery social media outburst, Trump suggested Schiff could soon face legal scrutiny, much like ex-FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, while urging authorities to reexamine the events surrounding his first impeachment as a fabricated scheme.

Let’s rewind to early 2020, when Trump faced his first impeachment over allegations of pressuring Ukraine to investigate the Biden family, a process in which Schiff, then a representative, played a leading role as a chief manager.

Revisiting the Ukraine impeachment controversy

That impeachment centered on claims that Trump withheld $391 million in security aid to Ukraine, allegedly to leverage an investigation into his political rivals with help from Rudy Giuliani.

Despite the House voting to impeach on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, the Senate acquitted Trump just weeks later, a decision many conservatives saw as vindication against what they call a partisan witch hunt.

Schiff, who previously chaired the House Intelligence Committee, became a lightning rod for criticism among Trump supporters for pushing unproven claims about Russian ties, ultimately earning a censure -- a badge of dishonor in the eyes of many on the right.

Trump issues latest call for probe

Fast forward to this year, and Trump is doubling down, publicly pressing for a fresh look into that Ukraine saga, branding it a sham of historic proportions.

“The Ukraine Impeachment (of me!) Scam was a far bigger Illegal Hoax than Watergate,” Trump declared on Truth Social, a statement that may resonate with those who feel the process was more about political theater than justice.

“I sincerely hope the necessary authorities, including CONGRESS, are looking into this! Adam ‘Schiffty’ Schiff was sooo dishonest and corrupt,” he added, a jab that’s polite by Trump standards but still cuts deep into Schiff’s credibility among MAGA faithful.

Schiff already under federal scrutiny

While Trump’s words stir the pot, Schiff is already under a federal microscope for unrelated allegations of mortgage and bank fraud dating back to 2003 through 2019, accusations that first surfaced in 2023 via CNN reporting.

Investigators are probing whether Schiff misrepresented his primary residence -- claiming both a Maryland property and a California condo as his main home—to snag tax breaks and favorable loan rates, a move that could spell serious legal trouble if proven.

In August, Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed Special Attorney Ed Martin to oversee the Department of Justice’s investigation, following a referral from Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte in April, signaling this isn’t just political noise but a formal inquiry.

Broader context of recent indictments

Schiff isn’t the only figure in Trump’s crosshairs; last month, the president vented frustration over the pace of probes into Comey, James, and Schiff, though that message was reportedly meant as a private note to Bondi, per the Wall Street Journal.

Comey was indicted on Sept. 25 for allegedly lying to Congress and obstructing justice, while James has also faced charges, leaving Schiff as the last of this trio yet to be formally accused -- a distinction that might not last long given the current trajectory.

All three have vehemently denied any wrongdoing, but with federal investigators circling and Trump’s public rhetoric heating up, the pressure on Schiff is mounting, raising questions about whether this is accountability or a strategic counterpunch against old foes.
