HarperCollins UK just pulled a fast one by yanking unverified gossip about first lady Melania Trump from a book faster than you can say "fake news."

In a nutshell, HarperCollins UK published a book with wild claims about Melania Trump, only to backtrack with an apology and a promise to scrub the offending passages from existence after facing legal heat from the first lady herself, as Newsweek reports.

The drama kicked off with the release of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York by Andrew Lownie, a book primarily about Britain’s Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, but with a spicy chapter on Prince Andrew’s ties to the notorious Jeffrey Epstein.

Controversial claims spark backlash

Tucked into this book were eyebrow-raising assertions that Epstein played matchmaker for Melania and Donald Trump -- an idea that’s as unverified as a unicorn sighting.

HarperCollins UK, sensing the storm brewing, quickly consulted with Lownie and decided to cut those passages out entirely, ensuring they wouldn’t see the light of day in any future copies.

As reported by The Telegraph, around 60,000 copies containing the dubious claims are being permanently pulled from distribution -- a costly move that screams, “We messed up.”

Publisher issues public apology

Not stopping at a mere edit, HarperCollins UK took to X on Tuesday to post a formal apology to Melania Trump, admitting their error in publishing the unverified story.

“HarperCollins UK recently published a book by Andrew Lownie titled ‘Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York.’ We have, in consultation with the author, removed passages of the book that referenced unverified claims about the First Lady of the United States Melania Trump,” the publisher stated.

“Copies of the book that include those references are being permanently removed from distribution. HarperCollins UK apologizes to the First Lady,” they added, in a rare display of corporate humility that’s almost refreshing in today’s blame-shifting culture.

Melania Trump fights back hard

Melania Trump wasn’t about to let this slide, sharing the publisher’s statement on her own X account to set the record straight for her supporters.

In her 2024 memoir, aptly titled Melania, she recounts meeting Donald Trump at a 1998 party at the Kit Kat Club in New York City, with an introduction by someone decidedly not Epstein -- a direct rebuttal to the gossip.

Her team is on the warpath, with spokesperson Nick Clemens declaring, “First Lady Melania Trump's attorneys are actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies by those who spread malicious, defamatory falsehoods.” Well, that’s one way to shut down the rumor mill with class and a legal hammer.

Legal threats extend beyond publisher

The plot thickens with Melania Trump also targeting Hunter Biden, who echoed similar claims in an interview, alleging Epstein’s role in her meeting with Donald Trump and even suggesting a close friendship between Trump and Epstein.

Not one to mince words, the first lady issued a legal notice demanding that Biden retract his statements and publicly apologize, as reported by Fox News -- a move that shows she’s not just defending her story, but her family’s honor.

This entire saga underscores a broader frustration among conservatives with the endless churn of unverified narratives pushed by progressive-leaning media and figures, often without consequence, while those targeted must fight tooth and nail for the truth. It’s a stark reminder of why skepticism toward sensationalist claims isn’t just warranted -- it’s necessary.
