Would-be Kavanaugh assassin now identifies as transgender

Imagine a plot so chilling it could unravel the very fabric of our judicial system -- a 29-year-old from California, Nicholas Roske, now identifying as Sophie Roske, caught red-handed in 2022 with a bag of weapons aimed at Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

This shocking case, culminating in a guilty plea in April 2025, now centers on Roske’s ideologically driven attempt to assassinate Kavanaugh over fears of Roe v. Wade’s potential reversal, amid news that the would-be killer now identifies as transgender, as the Daily Caller reports.

Let’s rewind to early 2022, when Roske, already using female identities online, began a disturbing descent into extremism, fueled by concerns over Supreme Court decisions on abortion and marriage rights expressed on platforms like Discord. The obsession grew darker with searches on combat gear, firearms, and even the most effective ways to inflict harm.

Unpacking a dangerous obsession

By March of that year, Roske’s online activity turned sinister, researching mass shootings and pondering which death could shake the world most, all while contemplating an insanity defense. It’s a stark reminder of how unchecked ideological fervor can spiral into dangerous territory.

Then came May 2022, when a leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court, published by Politico, hinted at overturning Roe v. Wade, igniting protests and exposing justices’ home addresses online. Roske seized this chaos as a call to action, traveling from California to Maryland after pinpointing Kavanaugh’s home through media images and activist posts. Talk about exploiting a crisis for catastrophic ends.

Armed with a Glock 17, tactical gear, and burglary tools, Roske flew to Dulles International Airport, ready to execute a meticulously planned attack. The Department of Justice later revealed Roske aimed to target not just one, but potentially three justices, to disrupt the constitutional order. This wasn’t a random act; it was a calculated assault on our democracy.

Ideology meets violent intent

Roske’s own words paint a grim picture, admitting to detectives, “I saw the news and it was upsetting.” That’s an understatement when your response is to plot a murder over a leaked draft, under some warped delusion of making the world “better.” It’s the kind of logic that makes you question the state of mental health support in this country.

“I was already suicidal,” Roske confessed, revealing a mindset where despair met dangerous ideology. The progressive agenda’s echo chamber on issues like abortion seems to have amplified this tragic spiral.

Arrested in Kavanaugh’s neighborhood with a deadly arsenal, Roske’s plan was thwarted, but not before chilling intent was laid bare. Thankfully, a call to 911 -- prompted by a concerned sibling -- halted the tragedy. Yet, one wonders how many close calls our justices endure in this hyper-polarized climate.

Justice Department seeks harsh penalty

Fast forward to April 2025, and Roske pled guilty to attempting to kill a Supreme Court Justice, a crime the Department of Justice isn’t taking lightly. They’re pushing for a 30-year sentence, a stance Attorney General Pam Bondi backs fiercely, stating, “This attempt... was an attack on the entire judicial system.” That’s a message conservatives can rally behind -- protect our institutions at all costs.

Bondi doubled down, declaring this administration “condemns political violence” and will ensure severe consequences. It’s a refreshing contrast to the soft-on-crime rhetoric often peddled by the left.

Meanwhile, Roske’s defense team insists on referring to their client as Sophie, using female pronouns in filings out of respect for gender identity. While personal choices deserve acknowledgment, let’s not lose sight of the real issue: a premeditated threat to a justice’s life over policy disagreements.

Broader implications of ideologically-driven violence

This case also ties into a larger conversation about extremism, with recent reports of the Justice Department mulling restrictions on firearm purchases by certain mentally unstable individuals. Add to that the conservative Oversight Project’s push for the FBI to label “Transgender Ideology Violent Extremism” as a domestic threat, and you’ve got a debate worth having. Are we ignoring warning signs in the name of political correctness?

Related incidents, like the tragic murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk by someone linked to a trans-identified individual, and a shooting by a trans-identifying gunman at a Minneapolis Catholic school, only fuel concerns.

The FBI’s increased focus on the Dobbs leak investigation, as noted by Deputy Director Dan Bongino, suggests even they recognize the stakes. It’s high time we prioritize security over ideology-driven narratives.
