Musk shifts away from third-party plan, appears poised to back Vance in 2028

Elon Musk’s political pivot is a head-scratcher. The tech titan, once eager to shake up the system with a new America Party, has scrapped that plan to throw his weight behind Vice President JD Vance’s potential 2028 presidential bid as the Daily Mail reports. This flip-flop, per the Wall Street Journal, reeks of pragmatism over idealism.

Musk’s decision to ditch the America Party and bankroll Vance sums up his latest move. After a public spat with President Trump, Musk is redirecting his considerable resources to support a rising conservative star. It’s a strategic retreat from a third-party dream that never materialized.

Last summer, Musk toyed with launching the America Party after an X poll showed 65.4% support. “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” he declared on X. That enthusiasm fizzled faster than a Tesla battery in a blizzard.

Musk’s third-party dream fades

No ballots, no backers, no buzz. Libertarian National Committee Chair Steven Nekhaila noted, “It’s almost an eerie silence.” Musk’s team canceled a July meeting with third-party organizers, signaling a focus on business over politics.

Musk’s shift to Vance comes after a messy fallout with Trump. Earlier this year, Musk took to X, claiming, “Trump is in the Epstein files.” That jab didn’t just burn bridges; it torched them.

Trump, never one to stay quiet, hit back hard. He threatened to yank government contracts from Musk’s ventures like SpaceX and Neuralink, even musing about deporting the billionaire. “We might have to put DOGE on Elon,” Trump told the Daily Mail, hinting at using Musk’s own agency against him.

Trump’s threats, then truce

By July, Trump softened his tone. “I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE,” he posted on Truth Social. The ceasefire suggests Musk’s pivot to Vance is less about ideology and more about self-preservation.

Vance, a frontrunner for the 2028 Republican nomination per recent polls, is gaining traction among tech elites. Palantir’s Peter Thiel, Roku’s Anthony Wood, and others are lining up behind him. Musk’s recent chats with Vance, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, show he’s betting on a proven MAGA ally.

The VP's star is rising, and Musk wants in. The vice president’s secret June 11 trip to Rupert Murdoch’s Montana ranch to meet Fox News executives signals his clout. Afterward, Vance and his wife, Usha, went hiking, as confirmed by Montana State Auditor James Brown.

Vance’s quiet power moves

The Murdoch meeting’s details remain under wraps, but its brevity speaks volumes. Vance is building bridges with media moguls while keeping his focus on the Trump agenda. Musk’s support could amplify that momentum, especially with nearly $300 million already spent to elect Trump in 2024.

Musk’s America Party was a nonstarter. “It doesn’t seem like anything has been in action,” Nekhaila observed. Without grassroots or state-level progress, the idea was dead on arrival.

Launching a third party by 2026 could have jeopardized Musk’s ties with Vance. “So my hope is that by the time of the midterms, he’s kind of come back into the fold,” Vance told the Gateway Pundit. Musk’s decision to sideline the America Party keeps that alliance intact.

Musk’s money talks

Musk’s wealth gives him outsized influence, and he’s not shy about using it. His pivot to Vance suggests a calculated move to back a winner rather than risk a third-party flop. The progressive pipe dream of a fractured conservative vote just got a reality check.

Trump’s term limits force the MAGA movement to look ahead. Vance, with his populist credentials and tech-world backers, is a natural successor. Musk’s endorsement could solidify that path, keeping the anti-woke fight front and center.

Elon Musk’s U-turn proves one thing: even visionaries play the long game. By ditching the America Party and betting on Vance, he’s trading idealism for impact. The woke crowd won’t like it, but conservatives will cheer this strategic masterstroke.
