Sahara Ray, the Australian model once linked to Justin Bieber and mother of a baby daughter, has died at 34 after a hard public fight with a rare nerve condition.

Ray died over the weekend at a hospital, surrounded by family, according to a statement her relatives gave Monday. She was 34.

USA TODAY reported that the family told TMZ she “passed away last night” and offered a short tribute to the life she lived.

"She passed away last night surrounded by family at the hospital,"

The family added a second line that needed no spin.

"She was so loved."

Cause of death was not released. City and hospital were not named. What is known is the arc she put on the record herself: a modeling career, a swimwear label, celebrity ties, a sudden medical crisis, and a newborn she called her whole heart.

From runway and swimwear to a wheelchair she did not expect

Ray was an Australian native and the daughter of famous surfer Tony Ray. She built a public brand as a model and influencer and launched her label, Sahara Ray Swim, more than a decade ago.

Tabloid coverage long tied her to pop stars Justin Bieber and Cody Simpson. Those past links followed her name into every headline. The fuller story she later told followers was medical, not romantic.

In 2024 she said she was hit by a car in April, developed an infection while recovering, and then faced Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune attack in which the body’s defenses turn on the nerves. The condition can bring weakness, numbness, or paralysis. Medical summaries note that about two-thirds of patients show signs of an infection in the six weeks before symptoms start.

Ray described the result in plain, hard terms. She said she was paralyzed from the tops of her thighs down to her upper feet and lived “primarily in a wheelchair” because she could not “walk at all.”

She told followers the fight was grinding and uncertain:

"This is really hard to deal with, and I've been trying to keep a good attitude and be hopeful that my feeling comes back, but there's always a chance it just stays like this,"

In the months that followed, she appeared to regain the ability to walk. That recovery became part of the public record she shared online. Then came motherhood.

Baby Snow and a final July post

In January she welcomed her first child, a daughter named Snow. She documented early motherhood on social media with the open pride of a new parent who had already fought to stand again.

Her final Instagram post, in July, was a run of photos of the baby. The caption was short and complete:

"My whole heart 🤍 baby Snow,"

That was the last public note many followers saw from her account before the family statement this week.

Model Becky Hearn remembered her friend with throwback photos on Instagram stories and a simple line of grief.

"Will always love you my sweet soul ❤️❤️❤️."

Other tributes followed online as word of the death spread Monday. No official medical examiner statement appeared in the initial reporting. No full family letter beyond the two sentences given to TMZ was published. The open questions, exact date, exact place, exact medical cause, remain unanswered in the first accounts.

What the record leaves clear

Ray’s public life mixed glamour and grit. She sold swimwear, posed for cameras, and dated famous names. She also told a mass audience when her legs stopped working, when a wheelchair became daily reality, and when hope had to share space with the chance that feeling might never fully return.

She lived long enough after that crisis to walk again in public view and to hold a daughter she named Snow. She did not live long enough to raise her past infancy. At 34, that is the blunt fact the family had to put in a statement.

Entertainment coverage will keep leading with the Bieber link because search traffic rewards it. The fuller file is a young mother, a rare nerve disease she described in her own words, and relatives who said she left the world at a hospital with family at the bedside.

Fame still ends at the same door every family knows, and a baby girl is left to grow up without the mother who called her her whole heart.
