Miley Cyrus returned for her first public concert in four years at the Hollywood Bowl and paid tribute to late godmother Dolly Parton with “Jolene” and a personal speech.
Cyrus took the stage Friday night at the famed Los Angeles venue, ran through an 18-song set, and debuted material from her new album Bass Persuades live for the first time. She also brought out guests and paused the show for a long, emotional remembrance of Parton, whom she called her godmother.
Consequence reported the night as a full-scale comeback performance, not a short promotional set, with another Hollywood Bowl date already lined up for Saturday and no further dates confirmed.
Model/Actriz joined her on “Different Religion.” Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips came out for “Do You Realize??” and “Karen Don’t Be Sad.”
The set mixed fresh tracks with career markers. Songs listed from the night included “Orbit,” “Bass Persuades + Remixx,” “Handstand,” “Something Beautiful,” “Walk of Fame,” “Redlights,” “We Can’t Stop,” “Wrecking Ball,” “Snow,” “Used to Be Young,” “The Climb,” “Party in the USA,” “Let’s Get Married,” and “Flowers,” along with the Parton cover.
In a recent Apple Music interview tied to the same reporting, Cyrus framed these shows as a preferred model over constant road travel.
She said:
"This is the ultimate dress rehearsal. I’ve learned now through the [ticket] queue that my calculations are correct and people will come to me. I don’t need to drive to you. Proven, that was a quick test. I win. So this is perfect because people like to see me perform and I like to sleep in my marshmallow bed so we can both be happy."
Cyrus told the crowd the venue choice was not random. She said one main reason she wanted to play the Hollywood Bowl was that it was the only place she had ever seen Dolly Parton live as a fan.
She described sitting in the audience that earlier night after asking Parton for a rare chance to watch like everyone else. Parton agreed, then spotlighted her anyway.
Cyrus recounted Parton’s words from the stage:
"I don’t know if y’all know this, but my goddaughter is Hannah Montana, and she’s actually here tonight! But she’s sitting out in her seat, she didn’t want anyone to bug her. She said she just wanted to watch the show!"
That shout-out, Cyrus said, wrecked the private plan on the spot. She had wanted one night without the attention. Parton, proud and unrehearsed in the family way, put a light on her seat and tied her to the old Disney role in front of the whole Bowl.
On Friday she covered “Jolene,” then made the debt plain. A social post from the fan account @hqmileynow on October 17, 2026, flagged the full homage.
Cyrus told the audience she feels Parton’s presence more now than when her godmother was physically here, and that sharing the old Bowl story made the memory worth the embarrassment of that earlier night.
She said:
"Like so many things Dolly did that I didn’t understand at the time, sitting here with you all right now, feeling her all around me, knowing she’s right here beside me every day, all the time, more than she ever could be when she was physically here, I feel her more now than ever. And knowing that I get to share this story with you all makes that night so worth it."
She closed the thought in blunt terms:
"This memory is gold to me. Me and Dolly, we are eternal. Nothing in this life could ever tear us apart, and I’m gonna see her again. And I can’t f***ing wait, because I miss her."
That is the center of the night as reported: a pop star back on a major stage after four years, new album songs in the set, famous friends for a couple of numbers, and a country legend’s goddaughter using the same room where she once watched from the seats.
Family loyalty still cuts through the machine when someone is willing to say it out loud.
