Knives recovered in Great Wolf Lodge double homicide may signal planning, private investigator says

Knives found after a Pennsylvania mother allegedly stabbed her husband and 3-year-old son to death at Great Wolf Lodge may point to premeditation, a private investigator says.

Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, is facing two counts of criminal homicide after prosecutors say she stabbed and killed her husband, Charles “Chaz” Harrison, and their toddler son, Tristan, inside a hotel room at the Poconos resort. Investigators discovered the father and son on Monday. She is being held in the Monroe County jail and is due in court on Oct. 21.

Fox News reported that investigators recovered knives at the scene with teal green handles, a detail that has drawn sharp focus from a private investigator reviewing the public file.

The criminal complaint states the blades did not match what the lodge keeps on hand. Great Wolf staff confirmed the point to investigators.

"Both knives had teal green handles, which Great Wolf staff confirmed was not a type kept by the lodge."

That mismatch sits at the center of questions about whether the weapons came with the family rather than from the resort.

Private investigator flags the lodge choice and the weapons

Rod Devine, a private investigator based in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley south of the Poconos, said the public record already shows elements that investigators will weigh hard. He pointed to the knives, the nature of the killings, and reports that money may have been drained before the trip.

The family lived in a modest home in Towanda, Pennsylvania, about 100 miles northwest of the resort. They were on a three-week stay at Great Wolf Lodge when the bodies were found. Devine said the destination itself raises questions.

"There’s so many lodges up in the mountains between where they lived and where they went to, that I’d be curious as to why they picked that lodge,"

Devine told Fox News the file available to the public already looks like it meets certain elements of planning. He also said investigators face “a lot of moving parts.”

"From the cursory file that we can look at, we being the general public, it looks like there are certain elements that are already met,"

He linked three threads in particular: allegations of a drained retirement fund ahead of the long stay, the way the victims were killed, and the possibility that the murder weapons were brought from home rather than taken from the lodge.

Family members describe control, isolation, and a drained account

Harrison’s stepmother told Fox News Digital it is possible the suspect drained the family’s 401(k) before the weeks-long resort stay. She had previously described the killings to the outlet as “preplanned.”

WNEP reported that family members allegedly told investigators Metallica Harrison “was dominant, controlling and isolated the three of them from her husband's family for the last three years.” The couple appeared to have been married for three years. Separate reporting cited in the Fox account said various outlets have carried claims that she never wanted the pregnancy and was resentful toward her son. Those claims remain allegations, not proven facts in court.

No official motive has been announced by prosecutors. Autopsies on both victims are being conducted, the family has confirmed. The investigation continues.

Chaz’s sister speaks through a memorial fundraiser

On a GoFundMe page, Chaz’s sister wrote about her brother’s devotion and stopped short of attacking the accused.

"His love for his wife and child was out of this world and, sadly, is the reason why he lost his life and his son's life,"

She added that she would not speak ill of his wife because she believed her brother would not want that.

"I’m not here to say anything bad about his wife. I know my brother would not want me to do that,"

Prosecutors say Metallica Rose Harrison stabbed both victims. She has not entered a public plea detailed in the available reporting. She sits in a Monroe County jail cell ahead of the Oct. 21 court date.

What is already on the record is concrete: two people dead in a resort hotel room, two teal-handled knives that staff say were not lodge property, a three-week stay far from a small-town home, and a private investigator arguing those pieces can support a premeditation theory. The courts will test that theory against evidence the public has not yet seen in full.

A child and a husband are gone. The system owes them a complete investigation, honest charging decisions, and a verdict grounded in facts, not spin.
