A 15-year-old Guatemalan girl sat up and spoke from her coffin at her own wake, hours after her father checked her pulse on the roadside and declared her dead.

Yuleidy Ixcotoyac collapsed in the early hours of a Saturday morning while her father drove her toward a medical center. Abraham Ixcotoyac, an evangelical pastor, stopped the car, checked for a pulse and breathing, and concluded she was gone.

He did not take her to the hospital. The family bought a coffin and arranged a wake at home in El Jocote. Mourners gathered around 2:30 p.m. Roughly eight hours after the collapse, the girl who had been treated as dead sat up.

The Sun reported the sequence from the family’s account and circulating footage of the moment she stirred.

Father stopped the car and found no pulse

Abraham Ixcotoyac said his daughter “had simply ceased to exist, she died on the way.” He described checking her wrists himself.

He told local media:

“I saw that she was no longer breathing and I couldn’t feel her pulse on her wrists.”

He called it a very difficult situation and confirmed she never reached a hospital. According to the father, no doctor ever confirmed the diagnosis and no official death certificate was issued. Guatemalan health authorities have not commented.

Yuleidy later described what she felt before she blacked out:

“My heart started hurting really badly; it felt heavy and then I blacked out, like I fainted.”

That is the only medical detail the family has offered in public. No independent exam before the wake appears in the reporting.

Mother refused to accept it

Lesvia Ríos, the girl’s mother, kept insisting her daughter was still alive. She leaned over the casket while weeping. Then she saw movement.

She said:

“When I was crying on top of her casket, we opened the window and she was moving, she was waking up and suddenly she sat up.”

Ríos also said she had kept repeating that her daughter was not dead. Family members helped Yuleidy out of the coffin. Grief at the home gathering turned to joy as the footage spread online.

Recovering at home and calling it a miracle

Yuleidy is conscious and recovering at home. Her hands were still shaking, she said, but strength was returning. She thanked God and her parents and framed the episode in plain faith language.

She said:

“I thank God and my parents because I’m alive. My hands are still shaking, but I’m already regaining my strength.”

She also called it a miracle. Her father is an evangelical pastor; the family’s public account centers on prayer, survival, and gratitude rather than any clinical explanation.

Basic questions remain open. The absolute calendar date of that Saturday is not fixed in the available account. It is unclear whether any licensed medical professional examined her before the coffin was closed. No hospital record, civil registry entry, or police file is cited. The precise time she spent inside the coffin before movement was noticed is not given. Health authorities have stayed silent.

What is established is narrower and still striking: a father found no pulse or breath on a roadside check, the family prepared a wake without a doctor’s confirmation or death certificate, mourners gathered in El Jocote, and the 15-year-old sat up and spoke.

Families still know the difference between a rushed conclusion and a life that refuses to end on someone else’s timetable.
