Rob Lowe says a St. Elmo’s Fire sequel is definitely moving forward, with the original cast eager to return and a script draft due the first week of October.

The “Parks and Recreation” star delivered the update Sunday on Watch What Happens Live, putting fresh momentum behind a project first floated two years ago.

“It is definitely in the works, for sure,” Lowe said, Variety reported.

He went further on the timeline and the mood among the original company.

"All of us actors want to do it, and we’re supposed to get a draft of the script the first week of October."

That is a sharper signal than the cautious talk that followed the 2024 announcement.

Early studio talks gave way to a waiting game

After the sequel first surfaced in 2024, Lowe told Entertainment Tonight he had “met with the studio” and had “been talking about doing it for about four months.”

He also stressed how unfinished the plan still was.

"But it’s very, very, very, very, very early stages,"

“So we will see,” he added at the time.

Co-star Demi Moore struck a similar note that year. She said “conversations are happening” and that talks were underway with Sony, the same studio tied to the original film.

Moore described the studio as “really behind [and] driving this,” while the team was still “looking for the right partner” to draft the script.

Lowe’s latest comments suggest that search has advanced far enough for the actors to expect pages in hand.

Brat Pack classic still draws interest decades later

The 1985 film followed a circle of recent college graduates navigating friendship, ambition, and messy romance in Washington, D.C.

Joel Schumacher directed and co-wrote the script with Carl Kurlander. The cast included Lowe, Moore, Emilio Estevez, Andrew McCarthy, Ally Sheedy, and Judd Nelson.

It became a defining title for that era’s young ensemble and has kept a loyal audience ever since.

Hollywood has tried to revive the property before. In 2019, NBC developed a modern series adaptation with Josh Berman attached to script and executive produce alongside Chris King. That version never reached the screen.

The current effort is aimed at a feature sequel, not another series reboot, and Lowe’s account puts the original performers at the center of it.

He did not name a writer, director, or formal greenlight in the Sunday appearance. He also did not list which cast members have signed on beyond his claim that the group wants in.

What he did put on the record is simple: the project is active, the actors are willing, and a draft is supposed to land in the first week of October.

For fans who have watched Hollywood churn out hollow remakes, a reunion driven by the people who actually made the movie still lands as the cleaner path.
