Hallmark axes Finding Mr. Christmas after two seasons amid fan outrage

Hallmark Channel has dropped its holiday reality series Finding Mr. Christmas after just two seasons, a move fans are slamming as a horrible decision that ends a show still building steam.

The Sun reported that the network will not bring the series back for a third season, cutting short a format that mixed lighthearted competition with the channel’s signature Christmas charm.

Host Jonathan Bennett, the Mean Girls alum who fronted the show, addressed the end of the run earlier this month and made clear the decision left him wanting more. Lead judge Melissa Peterman rounded out the core on-air team as ten aspiring male actors competed each season for a shot at Hallmark stardom.

Bennett says the show built real traction

Bennett told Entertainment Now the cancellation fits a familiar industry pattern. He did not sugarcoat it.

He said, “This is the hard thing about show business. Sometimes, randomly for no reason, your show gets canceled.”

He also pointed to audience energy that, in his view, had not peaked. People were throwing watch parties across the country, he said, and the series was still growing.

“I’m hoping that in a year or two, there might be a space to bring it back because it had such traction and was growing so much. People were having parties around the country to watch the episodes.”

That is not the language of a host walking away from a flop. It is the language of someone who saw a franchise still finding its legs.

Winners got the Hallmark movie payoff

The series premiered in October 2024. Season 1 crowned Ezra Moreland, who then starred in Happy Howlidays alongside Jessica Lowndes that December.

Season 2 wrapped the following year with Craig Geoghan taking the title. Geoghan later appeared in A Make or Break Holiday with Hunter King and Evan Roderick.

In other words, the prize was real. Winners moved straight into Hallmark Christmas movies, the network’s core product. Contestants who did not land a film still left with something Bennett valued highly.

He described the cast bond this way:

“It’s just so fun because they all still talk, they’re all friends.”

And he tied that camaraderie directly to the brand:

“They created community, and I think that’s what Hallmark Channel is all about. And I think these guys are such great ambassadors to what the network is because of who they are as people.”

He went further on the “Hallmark Hunks” label, saying the men embodied the type even when a movie role did not follow.

“They are Hallmark Hunks, they may not all have landed a movie, but they embody what it is to be a Hallmark Hunk, and I think that’s really special.”

Reddit fans call the cut a mistake

Viewers did not hide their frustration. On the HallmarkMovies subreddit, reactions landed fast and blunt.

One original poster wrote, “So sad that it won’t be coming back this year. It had so much potential!! Hopefully it comes back eventually!”

Another user put it more sharply: “Ugh what a horrible decision!”

A third defended the tone of the show while asking for a second look at the format: “Bring it back! I think the judging could have been tweaked a bit, but the show was campy, lighthearted fun that also had heart.”

And a fourth simply said, “Noooo I’m so sad!! I loved this show!”

Hallmark has not issued a public explanation for ending the series. No ratings figures, episode counts, or internal memo appear in the available reporting. The network decided not to continue, and that was that.

Bennett’s hope for a later revival remains just that, hope. For now, Finding Mr. Christmas stops at two seasons, two winners with movie credits, and a fan base that still wanted another holiday run.

When a clean, family-friendly show builds parties and community and still gets the ax without a stated reason, it is fair to ask whether executives are listening to the audience that actually shows up.
