Cath Bowie, known online as grumpygran48, locked in the title after nearly a decade of livestreaming the popular battle-royale game, UPI reported. She turned 78 on Sept. 1 and now appears in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2027 book.
The recognition lands as a clean win for grit over excuses. Bowie started watching her grandson play Fortnite in 2017, got hooked, and kept showing up on Twitch for nine years.
Bowie has said she was “instantly intrigued” the moment she saw her grandson on Fortnite. She did not treat the hobby as a phase or a kids-only pastime. She learned it, streamed it, and stayed with it.
That kind of steady follow-through shows up often in Guinness files, including an Iowa family record built across generations rather than a single viral stunt.
Bowie told Guinness World Records she still plays and still loves the game.
"Nearly nine years later I am still playing it, still absolutely loving it and although still growing older I have never made my age a deterrent."

"Although I have tried several other games I have never found the excitement that I get from Fortnite. I call myself a 'Fortniter' more than a gamer."
