A 78-year-old grandmother from Scotland has locked down a Guinness World Record as the oldest female Fortnite streamer on Twitch after nearly a decade behind the controller.
UPI reported that Cath Bowie, who streams as grumpygran48, earned the mark at 78 and is featured in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2027 book.
Bowie turned 78 on Sept. 1. She has spent nine years livestreaming her gaming sessions on Twitch, the platform named in the record.
The hobby started at home. In 2017 she saw her grandson playing Fortnite, the online multiplayer game, and was instantly intrigued.
Bowie told Guinness World Records:
"Nearly nine years later I am still playing it, still absolutely loving it and although still growing older I have never made my age a deterrent."
She did not bounce from title to title looking for a trend. She stayed with the same fight that first pulled her in.
Bowie told Guinness World Records she had sampled other games and still came back to one lane.
"Although I have tried several other games I have never found the excitement that I get from Fortnite. I call myself a 'Fortniter' more than a gamer."
That kind of stubborn focus fits a wider Guinness pattern of odd, earned marks, including a Nova Scotia man who solved 211 Rubik’s cubes on a pogo stick and made the book the hard way.
Bowie’s own prize was not a corporate stunt or a one-day stunt reel. It was years of regular streams under a handle that does not hide her age.
Landing in the official gaming book was a long shot she barely allowed herself to expect. Bowie said:
"Being in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2027 always felt like a distant goal -- something on my wish list that I never really thought I would achieve."
She added:
"So to have achieved this honor means a great deal."
The same Guinness machine that put her in the Gamer’s Edition also features a 19-inch car, a five-year-old yoga teacher, and the most tattooed man alive in related 2027 coverage.
Human marks keep rolling in elsewhere, too. A St. Pete Beach firefighter took a Guinness mark as the shortest woman on the job, another case of a working adult proving the record books still reward grit over excuses.

Bowie’s path matches that mold. A grandson on a console. A grandmother who refused to sit out. Nine years of streams. A record tied to a real platform and a real game, not a press release about feelings.
Product stunts fill pages too, Conagra smashed a Guinness record with a 429-foot Slim Jim on its Omaha campus, but a 78-year-old Fortnite regular is a different kind of entry. She logged the hours.
No agency assigned her the controller. No slogan made her stay. She saw a kid play, liked the fight, and kept showing up.
Age is real. It is not a permission slip to quit, and the people who prove it rarely wait for a committee to cheer first.
