A naked 31-year-old man armed with what appeared to be a machete smashed car windshields, damaged an ambulance, and chased pedestrians through a Polish city before officers used a stun gun to bring him down, and no one was injured.
The incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. Monday in Bielsko-Biała, a city in southern Poland, when the man began attacking passing vehicles on a public road. He smashed windshields, destroyed street lamps, and at one point climbed onto the hood of a car driven by a woman who jerked the vehicle forward and backward trying to shake him off. Video footage published by The Sun captured the chaotic scene as the man, completely unclothed and slightly bleeding from one foot, moved from target to target along the road.
He also damaged an ambulance during the rampage, though police said no bystanders or first responders suffered injuries.
Armed officers wearing helmets and carrying shields closed in on the suspect but kept their distance at first. Police spokesperson Sub-Lieutenant Sławomir Kocur said the man ignored every command.
"The man did not respond to any commands. He was quickly overpowered."
Kocur described the Taser as a "direct coercive measure" and confirmed officers deployed it to end the confrontation. The suspect went down, and police took him into custody on the spot.
He was transported to a provincial hospital under police escort and spent the night under observation with officers stationed at his bedside. Authorities ordered blood tests, and the investigation remains open.
After being subdued, the man offered what Kocur characterized as rambling accounts of his behavior. Among his claims: he had just left an A&E department, the British and European term for an emergency room. Police have not confirmed that claim.
Unofficial local reports suggested possible drug influence, though authorities have not verified that either. Blood test results could clarify the picture, but officers said they are waiting until the suspect is well enough to be formally interviewed before pressing forward.
No formal charges have been publicly announced. The full extent of the material damage, smashed windshields, broken street lamps, a damaged ambulance, is still being assessed.
When law enforcement responds quickly and uses force proportionally, even a bizarre and dangerous situation can end without a single civilian hurt. That part of this story deserves as much attention as the spectacle.
