"Pawn Stars" star Rick Harrison is recovering from emergency bypass surgery after doctors discovered the need mid-procedure, a sudden turn for a man who just months ago said he was the happiest he had ever been.

Harrison, the 60-year-old Las Vegas reality TV personality and boss of the long-running History Channel hit, went into a hospital for what his family described as a simpler, presumably routine procedure. Doctors found something far more serious. A family spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the medical team determined Harrison needed bypass surgery on the spot.

The spokesperson did not identify the hospital or specify when the surgery took place. No details about the original procedure or what prompted it have been released. But the family's public statements struck a grateful tone, not a panicked one.

"He went in for a simpler procedure, and they found he needed a bypass. He is resting comfortably and looking forward to a full recovery."

The spokesperson added that Harrison "is grateful for the doctors and staff at the hospital and that his wife and family can be with him during this time."

A year of loss preceded Harrison's health scare

The emergency surgery caps a brutal stretch for the Harrison family. In January 2024, Rick's son Adam Harrison died at 39 from an accidental fentanyl overdose after years of struggling with addiction. Less than two years later, in November 2025, Rick's mother Joanne Harrison died at 85.

Those losses make the family's measured, thankful response to the bypass surgery all the more striking. No public complaints. No drama. Just gratitude for the medical staff and relief that Harrison's wife and relatives could be at his side.

Harrison married again at 60, and called it the best decision of his life

Months before the surgery, Harrison sat down with Fox News Digital and talked about finding happiness again after personal tragedy. He had married Agripina "Angie" Polushkin, 42, on January 3 at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. An Elvis Presley impersonator officiated.

Harrison did not sound like a man going through the motions. He sounded like someone who had been through enough to know what mattered.

"She was there for me. And that's the important part. She was there for me."

He described Angie as genuine and sharp, someone he could actually talk to.

"I just started talking to her, and you have a conversation with her. And she's really, really smart."

Harrison, who reads physics books for fun by his own account, said the connection was immediate. "There was just something about her when I met her," he told Fox News Digital.

Asked about finding love later in life, Harrison kept it simple.

"It's all about being happy. It really is. I mean, life is absolutely amazing if you want to make it amazing. It's a wonderful, amazing world out there."

Few medical details, but the family's tone suggests steady ground

The family has not disclosed the specific hospital, the city where Harrison is recovering, or any complications from the bypass. The original "simpler procedure" that led to the discovery remains unnamed. Those gaps leave open questions about Harrison's longer-term prognosis.

What the family has said, "resting comfortably," "full recovery," deep thanks for the medical team, points toward a man who caught a serious problem before it became a fatal one. Bypass surgery is major, but discovering the need during another procedure may have been the luckiest break Harrison has had in a difficult few years.

A man who buried his son, buried his mother, remarried at 60, and then landed on an operating table for emergency heart surgery has earned the right to call happiness a choice. Rick Harrison keeps making it.
