Meghan Markle is reportedly weighing acting offers, including a UK-based project, as she and Prince Harry prepare to leave California and return to England at the end of August.
The Duchess of Sussex has fielded what unnamed sources describe as recent "inquiries in the entertainment space," with discussions underway but nothing locked down. Page Six reported that Markle is actively considering opportunities, while Variety confirmed Friday that a career update could be imminent. Separately, the Australian outlet News.com.au reported that Markle has been offered a role in an upcoming project based in the UK.
None of it is final. One source close to the situation put it plainly: "Something is being discussed but it's not solid." But the timing is hard to ignore. The acting talk arrives just as the Sussexes prepare to relocate from their Montecito, California, home to England for what Page Six described as "an extended period," with the move planned for the end of August 2026.
King Charles III was reportedly told on Sunday that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be returning to Britain. A source told Page Six that "the palace was made aware of the move," adding: "I know that Charles is the reason they are moving back." No further detail was given on whether that refers to a health concern, a family reconciliation, or something else entirely.
Markle's acting career is not ancient history, but it has been dormant for nearly a decade. She starred as Rachel Zane on the USA Network legal drama "Suits" for seven seasons, from 2011 to 2018. She left the show upon her engagement to Prince Harry in November 2017, and her final episode aired in the Season 7 finale in April 2018, roughly a month before the couple's lavish wedding ceremony.
At the time, Markle framed the departure as a clean break. In a 2017 interview, she said:
"It's a new chapter, right? I've ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I've done there, and now it's time to work with [Harry] as a team."
That "new chapter" included stepping back from senior royal duties alongside Prince Harry, a move that landed the couple in Montecito, where they have lived with their two children, Prince Archie, now 7, and Princess Lilibet, now 5. The couple's return to Britain after six years has drawn mixed reactions on both sides of the Atlantic.
Markle did not vanish from the screen entirely. She launched a Netflix lifestyle show, "With Love, Meghan," in March 2025. But Page Six exclusively reported in January 2026 that the show would not return for a third season. Two seasons and done.
The Netflix cancellation left a gap. And into that gap stepped something more familiar: Hollywood.
Page Six first reported Markle's acting return in November 2025, when word broke that she would make a cameo appearance, playing herself, in the Amazon MGM Studios comedy "Close Personal Friends," which stars Brie Larson and Lily Collins. A production source described the moment to the Sun at the time:
"This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves."
The same insider said Markle had "been swamped with offers but this one felt right," calling it "Meghan's way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set." The source added that "everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement."
No release date or production timeline for the film has been disclosed. But the cameo, a brief, controlled appearance as herself rather than a scripted character, reads like a low-risk test run. If the UK-based project now reportedly on the table is a full acting role, it would represent a considerably larger commitment.
The financial dimension of the Sussexes' situation adds context. Reports have surfaced that Harry and Meghan may sell their Montecito estate, where annual costs reportedly top $650,000. A transatlantic move and a return to paid acting work would fit a household looking to stabilize its income after a Netflix show folded and royal subsidies dried up years ago.
Prince Harry, for his part, is said to be on board. An unnamed source told Page Six that Harry has been "really supportive" and "quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy." Harry's own public profile has centered more on charitable work and media ventures. He recently redirected Diana memorial fund money to an elephant charity amid fallout from his involvement with the Sentebale organization.
The couple has maintained a visible public schedule in recent months. They attended a David Foster Foundation gala in Canada, an appearance that generated its own round of media attention and debate over how the Sussexes are perceived in public.
Page Six said it reached out to Markle's representative for comment. No response was reported.
Several basic questions remain unanswered. What is the UK-based project Markle has reportedly been offered? Is it the same opportunity referenced in the "entertainment space" inquiries, or a separate one? Is the UK return permanent, temporary, or tied to a production schedule? And what exactly is King Charles's role in drawing the couple back, a question the unnamed source raised but did not explain?
Markle left Hollywood in 2017 saying she had "ticked this box." She left the royal family's senior ranks a few years later. She left Netflix after two seasons. Now she may be circling back to the career she walked away from nearly a decade ago, in the country she and Harry left amid a global media spectacle.
For a couple that built a brand on breaking away, the pattern is worth noticing. Every exit eventually becomes a re-entrance, and every re-entrance comes with a camera crew, a press cycle, and a fresh round of unnamed sources explaining what it all means.
At some point, the audience gets to ask whether this is a new chapter or just the same one with a different cover.
