Christy Knowings, who starred on Nickelodeon's sketch comedy hit "All That" for three seasons in the late 1990s, has died at 46 in California, drawing emotional tributes from co-stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell.

Knowings' father, Charles Dunn, confirmed her death to ABC News on Friday. The network reported that Knowings died earlier in the week. No cause of death has been disclosed.

Thompson, who went on to become a longtime "Saturday Night Live" cast member, posted a photo of Knowings on Instagram Thursday alongside a tribute that left little doubt about the loss he felt.

"Man this one hit hard!!! Rest well Christy!!! Never could have imagined this day!! Sending so much love to her family!! She was a real one and one of the funniest people out here!!! Gonna miss you buddy!!!"

Mitchell shared video highlights of Knowings' comedic performances on his own Instagram page and called her "truly one of a kind."

"So naturally funny, incredibly talented, and fearless when it came to comedy. She had a gift for creating characters that were big, memorable, and completely her own. I'll always be grateful for the laughs, the memories, and the time we shared as part of the All That family."

Mitchell added: "Sending my love and deepest condolences to Christy's family and loved ones. Rest in Heaven."

From the Bronx to Nickelodeon's biggest sketch show

Knowings joined "All That" in 1997 and appeared through 2000, sharing the stage with Thompson, Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg, Amanda Bynes, Josh Server, and Nick Cannon. The Nickelodeon series was a comedy institution for a generation of kids raised on cable television, and Knowings carved out a distinct place in its ensemble.

In a 2019 interview with Bustle, Knowings described one of her favorite moments on set, playing an over-the-top Martha Stewart parody named Gloria Bankhead.

"My favorite moment on set was when I started to do this character in Season 6 named Gloria Bankhead. She was an over-the-top Martha Stewart, I had never played any character like her! I just remember being on set and being her all-day long. Everybody loved it!"

Knowings grew up in the Bronx and identified herself as Native American Afro-Latina. She told Bustle that her background gave her range on the show.

"I'm from the Bronx and Native American Afro-Latina, so I was able to bring so much to the table. We would bring cultural nuances and it was celebrated."

She also reflected on what made the show matter beyond its comedy. "'All That' showcased the unity that we all wanted, needed and still need in a very humorous way," Knowings said in that same interview.

Her manager called her 'always professional'

Al Hill, Knowings' manager, provided a statement to ABC News praising her range and work ethic.

"Christy was a multi talented lady. Whether it was singing, acting, dancing, she was always creating. Always professional and dedicated to her work."

Hill's statement pointed to a career that extended beyond the Nickelodeon years. Knowings was photographed at a Los Angeles premiere in October 2017, attending the debut of "Halloween Hotness 4: Heating Up For The Cure", a sign that she remained active in the entertainment world well after her childhood fame.

Knowings' death adds to a string of losses among television performers in recent years. Last year, former "General Hospital" actress Robyn Bernard was found dead at 64 in an open field behind a business in San Jacinto, California, a death the Riverside County Sheriff's Office said did not involve foul play. Bernard had appeared on the soap opera for 145 episodes between 1984 and 1990.

No details about memorial arrangements for Knowings have been made public. Her cause of death and the specific California city where she died remain undisclosed.

Forty-six is far too young. The tributes from Thompson and Mitchell make clear that Knowings left a mark, on a show, on a generation of viewers, and on the people who worked beside her every day.
