Former CIA Director John Brennan is officially in the crosshairs of a Florida grand jury probe that’s digging into the murky waters of the 2016-2017 Russia collusion narrative, as Just the News reports.
This investigation, centered in Miami, is scrutinizing Brennan’s role in a now-discredited CIA assessment claiming Russian interference favored Donald Trump in the 2016 election, alongside allegations of judicial manipulation by the Justice Department, as raised by Brennan’s legal team.
Let’s rewind to the heart of this saga: the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, released in the waning days of the Obama administration, painted a picture of Vladimir Putin meddling to boost Trump’s chances.
That report, described as hastily assembled, has since been torn apart by whistleblower evidence, with even career intelligence experts disagreeing on its conclusions, as revealed by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
Adding fuel to the fire, evidence suggests Brennan personally insisted on including the infamous Steele dossier -- now widely debunked -- in that assessment, despite later testifying otherwise to Congress.
Ratcliffe and Gabbard didn’t hold back, referring Brennan for potential prosecution over these discrepancies, which has now landed him as a “target” of grand jury investigation NS 1840-020 in Miami, a term signaling a likely indictment per the U.S. Attorney’s manual.
Brennan’s lawyers, Ken Wainstein and Natasha Harnwell Davis, confirmed the probe’s focus in a letter to U.S. District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga, who oversees the Miami federal court.
“We have been formally advised by prosecutors of the Office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida that Director Brennan is a target of grand jury investigation NS 1840-020 in the Miami Division (24-06), which is examining the circumstances surrounding the production of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment about Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election in the United States,” they wrote.
Now, here’s the rub. While the left once cheered such probes as noble truth-seeking, Brennan’s team cries foul, alleging this is a politically motivated witch hunt spurred by President Trump’s influence over Attorney General Pam Bondi to target his critics.
More eyebrow-raising still, the defense alleges the Justice Department is playing fast and loose with the system, trying to steer the case to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who previously dismissed a Trump-related indictment.
“Another example of irregular activity -- which is even more troubling and potentially harmful to our client's rights -- relates to the government's apparent effort to manipulate grand jury and case assignment procedures to ensure that this investigation and any resulting prosecution will be overseen by a particular District Judge of its preference,” Brennan’s lawyers argued.
Call it “judge shopping” if you will, but if true, it’s a stark reminder that fairness in our courts shouldn’t be a roll of the dice -- or worse, a stacked deck.
Brennan’s legal team also pointed to leaks breaching grand jury secrecy, claiming media snippets about the investigation are tainting the process and undermining their client’s right to impartial treatment.
Democrats, who once wielded the justice system as a cudgel against Trump, now find themselves lamenting the so-called weaponization of federal power. The irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
This extraordinary push by Brennan’s defense to halt the grand jury proceedings signals a palpable fear of an indictment looming on the horizon. At the same time, the Justice Department remains mum, offering no comment on the escalating controversy.
