Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest innovator, has found himself in a public spat with California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office over a deeply personal matter involving his estranged transgender daughter.
This fiery exchange on social media centers on Musk’s relationship with Vivian Jenna Wilson, previously known as Xavier, and a taunting remark from Newsom’s team about her feelings toward her father, as the New York Post reports.
The clash began when Newsom’s press office took a jab at Musk in response to a clip shared by Musk’s America PAC, which highlighted Newsom’s pride in passing numerous pro-transgender laws.
“We’re sorry your daughter hates you, Elon,” Newsom’s press office quipped, a barb clearly meant to sting.
Let’s be honest -- poking at a family rift like this is a low blow, even for political sparring, and it’s hard to see how such a personal attack advances any meaningful policy discussion.
Musk didn’t let the comment slide, firing back with a pointed defense of his bond with his children while expressing concern over what he sees as harmful progressive ideologies.
“I assume you’re referring to my son, Xavier, who has a tragic mental illness caused by the evil woke mind virus you push on vulnerable children,” Musk retorted, laying bare his frustration with the cultural trends he believes influenced his daughter’s choices.
While Musk’s language is sharp, it reflects a genuine anguish over a strained relationship, a pain any parent might feel when ideology seems to drive a wedge between them and their child.
Back in 2022, Vivian Jenna Wilson, one of Musk’s 14 children and six from his first marriage to Justine Wilson, legally changed her gender and name in California, severing ties with her father by dropping the Musk surname.
Wilson went further, filing to end any association with Musk, making her stance painfully clear to the public.
“I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form,” Wilson declared, a statement that underscores the depth of their estrangement.
Her words cut deep, and while Musk’s perspective on cultural influences may resonate with many who question progressive agendas, Wilson’s choice to distance herself is a personal decision that deserves respect, even if one disagrees.
Musk has repeatedly claimed he was misled into consenting to Wilson’s transition at age 16, lamenting that she was “killed by the woke mind virus,” a phrase he uses to critique what he sees as damaging social trends.
Whether one agrees with Musk or not, his concern highlights a broader debate about parental rights and the speed at which some policies push life-altering decisions on young people. It's a conversation worth having without the vitriol.
Meanwhile, Wilson has carved out her own path as a media personality and model, gracing the cover of Teen Vogue. Though she has publicly stated she’s financially struggling after cutting ties with Musk, often described as the richest man on the planet, a contrast that adds another layer of complexity to this family saga.
