A 25-year-old Indonesian woman slipped on rocks at a waterfall, was swept over the edge, and fell more than 65 feet to her death.
Windy Rahma Putri was bathing with friends at Robo Waterfall in Harau, Indonesia, when she lost her footing on the wet stone and went over the edge, The US Sun reported.
The fall happened around 3:45 p.m. on a Thursday. She was from Padang Pariaman in West Sumatra.
Search crews could not find her that day. Her body was recovered the next morning at the bottom of a deep ravine below the falls.
She had been resting on rocks in the flowing water. Then she shifted as if she meant to stand.
The current took her. She reached for a friend nearby and missed. The water carried her off the cliff.
She fell more than 65 feet down the steep face of Robo Waterfall.
Abdul Malik, head of the Padang Search and Rescue Office, described what crews were told.
"The victim was reported to have slipped and was suspected of drowning and being swept away."
That is the official account on record. A final medical ruling on the precise cause of death was not detailed in the report.
Search and rescue crews launched an operation as soon as reports came in. They did not locate her on the first day.
The next morning, her body was found at the base of the ravine. Steep and dangerous ground forced crews to use a specialized rope system to bring her back up the cliffside.
In all, 119 people took part. The group included search and rescue staff, the military, police, a disaster management agency, firefighters, local authorities, and community members.
Her body was later handed to her family to be taken home.
The same report noted other recent waterfall deaths. Just days earlier, Mauricio Marques Gomes, 32, died at Cachoeira da Fortuna, a 260-foot waterfall in Brazil. His body was found underwater in a pool at the base. Forensic examiners said he died from injuries caused by the fall.
Weeks before that, in late September, a UK-based tourist slipped on a boulder and tumbled down a waterfall. A former classmate, Rafael Marchese, said news of her death left him filled with great sorrow. A WeRoad colleague said the team was shocked.
Different countries. Same pattern. People treat the top of a waterfall like a safe swimming hole. Wet rock and moving water do not forgive a misstep.
Robo Waterfall is a scenic draw in Harau. Scenic does not mean harmless. A short slip on stone was enough to send a young woman over a cliff in front of her friends.
No safety warnings, closures, or further investigation steps were detailed beyond the recovery itself. The open facts stop at the fall, the search, and the return of her body to her family.
Waterfalls reward caution and punish overconfidence. Gravity does not grade on a curve.
