Laura Loomer, through her attorney, filed the lawsuit in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court in Sumter County, Florida, focusing on remarks Maher made on his September 13 television show. On that episode, Maher joked about Loomer's closeness to Trump, insinuating a relationship designed to influence the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Maher elaborated on his thoughts by referencing an old editorial from his show, speculating humorously about Trump’s possible romantic interests, and stated that he thought Loomer might be involved with Trump.
